A barnstar for you...

[edit]
The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
I, odder, hereby award you, Homo lupus, The Tireless Contributor Barnstar in recognition of your hard work in completing descriptions of various national flags at the Commons. odder 22:11, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you change a description to russian? I think Wikimedia Commons' language is english. --Pianist (talk) 15:13, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you're talking about the page Soviet Republic flags, I changed it because if you go to an average country page you will find it in its native language, such as España. If you're talking about a file on the page, it was probably an accident. Homo lupus (talk) 20:05, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about the rule (please show me it)... Also, there are some mistakes in translation. --Pianist (talk) 11:32, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What rule? There is some consesus on certain naming conventions but there really are no rules. Commons:Языковая политика. Homo lupus (talk) 16:57, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you give me some time I could add other languages, the only problem is that if more than one line of text is added to each description it looks cluttered. Homo lupus (talk) 17:30, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here is what it would look like if more captions were added. Look at this:

So what do you think? Six or seven languages would seem acceptable. One of them could be English. Homo lupus (talk) 20:52, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do not arbitrarily remove valid file description comments because they don't conform to some preconceived arbitrary grand plan personal to yourself alone

[edit]

Seems like you're up to all your old tricks and nonsense on File:British Union of Fascists flag.ant.svg. Too bad you never seem to be able to learn anything from past mistakes... AnonMoos (talk) 00:31, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it because it is incorrect. There is no citation for this symbol being banned in Austria and Germany. Homo lupus (talk) 17:16, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, it seems you have some sort of personal vendetta against me because to my knowledge I have not deleted any language descriptions for a long time. You on the other hand, just did with the above file. You readded what I believe to be incorrect information without proof for it being correct, changed the Finnish description to Sundanese, suggesting you didn't actually look closely at my edit and removed the French, Irish and Welsh descriptions. Homo lupus (talk) 17:33, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You owe me an apology for making broad accusations when I was correcting what appeared to be a mistake, the mistake being the statement that this a banned symbol in Austria and Germany. If someone could prove that it is banned, then I admit to a mistake of my own, however, I greatly resent you accusing me of acting in bad faith. The functionality of the template Rename has recently changed. You might need to clear your cache to see the changes. If successful you should then be able to use the new "Quick adding" link in the template to instruct CommonsDelinker to replace the old name with the new name in all wikis. Please use that every time you rename a file. If further questions arise, feel free to write on my talk page --DieBuche (talk) 10:00, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

State flags

[edit]

I came across the edits that you and Fry1989 were making to some of the state flag categories. I find myself in agreement with your edits. I am not sure why Fry1989 took the position that (s)he did, but maybe he has a point that is not easily conveyed in short edit summaries. I have left a note on his talk page, and perhaps the three of us can resolve this issue over there. Cheers - --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:31, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flag sorting

[edit]

I've noticed several category edits you have done, and while I have no problem with them(actually they're very helpful), I have to ask that when you come across a flag that is sorted with a number on it, for example [category cat name|3], that you not remove the numbers. The reason I ask this is because of a recent cat work you did for the many flags of the United States President. I had them organized within the Flags of the US President category by their usage date, and when you removed the sorting numbers I added, that moved them all over the place within the category. Thank you. Fry1989 (talk) 00:24, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that my revision is absolutely correct, but your original Arabic text there was definitely incorrect... AnonMoos (talk) 22:20, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good for you. You must be very proud of yourself. Don't bother telling me next time because I don't care. Homo lupus (talk) 22:33, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Canada as former colony

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to drop you a line to make clear that I do not disagree with you that provinces and territories were former colonies. It's a COM:OVERCAT issue. Canada as a whole is already in that category. It is overcategorization to put the provinces and the country in the same category. While I appreciate that some provinces, like P.E.I. for example, were colonies in their own right before they joined Confederation, it is messy to start including them in the former colonies category as well: in addition to the problematic COM:OVERCAT issues, it is misleading to only include some provinces because all of Canada at one point was a British Colony. Moreover, you also have complications because the colonial entities aren't necessarily the same entity as exist today: the most blatant example is today's Quebec, which is not the same thing as the 1763–1791 Quebec colony - two separate things that share a name. Anyway, I thought I should take the time to explain my reasoning, as I rudely neglected to use edit summaries last time. Hope that helps. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 21:44, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That flag does not have a chevron (though in heraldic terms, it might be considered to have a field divided per chevron, which is actually completely different...). -- AnonMoos (talk) 11:14, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Evidently others disagree File:Flag type chevron.svg. It's identical in pattern to many other flags in that category so I added in accordance with that. There appears to be only one file in that category meeting the heraldic definition: File:Flag of South Kasai.svg. Homo lupus (talk) 14:47, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well it's really not correct terminology in heraldry, and I doubt whether it's correct terminology in vexillology, either (certainly not according to page 27 of The World Encylopedia of Flags by Alfred Znamierowski, ISBN 0-7548-0167-5, where "triangle" and "chevron" are very carefully distinguished). AnonMoos (talk) 15:06, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

wrong use of Category:Criminals of Germany

[edit]

Hi Homo lupus,
it has come to my attention that you have added Category:Criminals of Germany to the cats of people of the German resistance, who had been injustly condemned by Nazi courts. It is quite absurd to label these people as criminals, as the judgements of the so-called Volksgerichtshof, who was responsible for the sentencing and execution of most if not all of these people, were a posteriori nullified per law of Germany, see de:Aufhebung von NS-Unrechtsurteilen (in german). I have therefore reverted your related edits (reverts of reverts by IP 87.188.178.97). --Túrelio (talk) 21:36, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If convictions have been overturned, I accept your reverts and I will not oppose. Homo lupus (talk) 22:34, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Happy editing. --Túrelio (talk) 07:19, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You could have created the gallery page yourself and simply copy and paste the gallery I created in the other page. But it was simply better to erase the work of someone else, right? Even more when this person had all the trouble of looking around for those pictures and creating the gallery. Thanks for being so reasonable. Keep going like this. --Lecen (talk) 12:28, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The translations you added are not useful unless they were to also contain words corresponding to "self-made", "proposed", etc. AnonMoos (talk) 20:19, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Homo lupus!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hello,
Look at what you did to Category:Alopex lagopus: 13 localisation categories !!
That is not rational.
Think of the meaning of Category:Mammals of Russia containing Category:Alopex lagopus. It does not contain fauna endemic to Russia but fauna present in Russia.
So you transformed 'endemism categories' into 'presence categories'.
Will you put Category:Mammals of France on the thousand of mammal species present in France ?
Won't you forget some ? How many categories will you put on Category:Mus musculus which is present every where?
No, localisation categories should be restricted to pure endemism.

Translating the interface in your language, we need your help

[edit]
Hello Homo lupus, thanks for working on this wiki in your language. We updated the list of priority translations and I write you to let you know. The language used by this wiki (or by you in your preferences) needs about 100 translations or less in the priority list. You're almost done!
To add or change translations for all wikis, please use translatewiki.net, the MediaWiki localisation project.

Please register on translatewiki.net if you didn't yet and then help complete priority translations (make sure to select your language in the language selector). With a couple hours' work or less, you can make sure that nearly all visitors see the wiki interface fully translated. Nemo 14:06, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Caucasus-ethnic ru.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi, I've just noticed to File:DinastíaGúrida1149-1212-fa.svg. This is a wrong map of en:Ghurid dynasty. As the article describes, they conquered Afghanistan, Pakistan and northern India, At their zenith. However, they never control western territories including Iran and Iraq. Important message for file movers

[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

 • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
 • To perform file name swaps.
 • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Queen Juliana associated with the Korean War?

[edit]

On Feb 12 2016 you added the Category:People associated with the Korean War to Category:Juliana of the Netherlands. But what had she to do with this war? I cannot find it anywhere. Could Category:People associated with the Korean War be removed from Category:Juliana of the Netherlands? JopkeB (talk) 04:46, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

She was commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Netherlands which fought in the war. Homo lupus (talk) 07:20, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This is totally new for me. As far as I know she was only our queen, in a constitutional monarchy in which she had limited authority and the ministers were responsible for her deeds. In addition she was a pacifist. She was not in charge of military actions. Do you have proof of her being commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Netherlands? I know no better than the Minister of Defense was responsible, or perhaps a general. JopkeB (talk) 16:30, 12 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The proof was the constitution of the Netherlands at that time. Before 1983, the monarch had supreme authority over the armed forces, not the government. As of 1948

Homo lupus (talk) 01:58, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You are rightǃ Thanks a lot for your research. This is instructive. I made a note about this subject on Category talk:Juliana of the Netherlands. JopkeB (talk) 16:17, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
