Description
Svenska: TEKANNA. Dehua ware porcelain teapotMing dynasty, 17th century In form of sections of bamboo, the lid and handle shaped like a prunus twig with leaves. Dehua potters specialised in making quirky vessels in natural forms, that would have served as wine jugs in China. When the first cargoes of tea reached Europe in the 17th century, small Chinese wine pots were often put to work as teapots. As European shipwreck cargoes show, Dehua ware was not exported in bulk, but rather included in small numbers, alongside mass orders of export porcelain from Jingdezhen.
