Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Stable yard, Shelf New Hall, Shelf. Shelf New Hall was built by Samuel Bottomley, a woollen manufacturer, in 1861. It was demolished in the 1950s after being used as a prisoner-of-war camp for Italians during the war, and the grounds are a public park. The yard and buildings in this photo have survived, and look to have been garages and workshops rather than stables, so were perhaps altered in the early 20C.
