English: A space elevator in motion, rotating with the Earth over the period of one sidereal day. As viewed from high above the north pole. The faint circle around the Earth represents the level of geostationary orbit. A satellite (green dot) is shown in geostationary orbit flying slightly behind the space elevator cable. The counterweight at the top of the space elevator cable is shown as a red/purple dot. The total height of the system shown here from the ground level to the counterweight is 60,000 km. |
