Samuel May Jr. (Writer) reports to Samuel J. May (Recipient) on the situation and potential plans of Recipient's brother in Hopedale. He then moves on to discuss the timing of an upcoming Antislavery Convention in Syracuse. Writer expresses a concern regarding the connection forming between the Free Soilers and Barnburners on one hand and the Democrats on the other, and criticizes John Van Buren. Writer ends the letter talking about a proper general course to take for antislavery causes and relating some news about family members and mutual friends
