Nathan Brown that the "American Baptist" was not receiving its copy of the Liberator, and requests that Garrison right this oversight. Johnson states that in spite of how "foolishly" President Lincoln has acted, both public sentiment and events in Washington, D.C. suggest that the situation is favorable to the abolitionist cause. Johnson cites the election of a Republican mayor as proof of this
