Oliver Johnson informs William Lloyd Garrison that he received Garrison's letter through Edmund Quincy concerning the "final action of the Executive Committee in regard to the termination of any connection with the Standard". Johnson apologizes for not having responded, thinking it unnecessary due to his own dismissal from the Standard. Johnson asks Garrison to assure the members of the Executive Committee that his regard for them "is not abated in the least". Johnson mentions Sydney Howard Gay's resignation from the Standard before the letter abruptly cuts off
