He attacks the Marquis of Clanricarde and says that the yacht, "Deerhound," which rescued the survivors of the "Alabama" was near the scene of the action by prearrangement. May discusses the dissension among the abolitionists over the candidacies of President Lincoln and John Charles Frémont. May lists what Lincoln has done for the slaves. He reports that his son Edward is home again and is recovering from malaria
