On verso, the delivery address is "Mrs. Charlotte Phelps, Farmington, Conn." It was postmarked, "BUFFALO, N.Y., OCT 8."
A. A. Phelps writes to his wife, Charlotte, about the troubles concerning the mobs and the $1000 reward put upon his head. After discussing his schedule until the convention in Utica, after which he will return home, Phelps speaks of other types of adversities, mentioning that he has to ́grapple with principalities and powers and spiritual wickedness in high places.́ He then discusses some domestic affairs, and the prospect of taking charge of the New England Spectator in Boston
