May regrets that he will not see Miss Shackleton due to his upcoming departure for Leicester. He gives a detailed account of certain financial transactions and asks Webb for his opinion as to how the Anti-Slavery Fair revenue could be better spent. He discusses various newspapers as possible recipients of the proceeds. May posits that the money could be given to "The New York Evening Post," but the "Post" backed Franklin Pierce, a pro-slavery candidate. He objects to "The New York Tribune" because it backed Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott. May lists the Liberty Party, the Free Democratic Party, and various lecturers as possible donees, but names objections to all of them. He asserts that "The Liberator" is not exclusively an anti-slavery paper
