On verso, the delivery address is "Mrs. Clarissa Tryon (care Rev. A. A. Phelps), Boston, Mass."
On July 28, A. A. Phelps writes from Liverpool to his mother that he and his company will embark on a journey back home the next day. After talking about the ship in which he is expected to travel, he describes his visit to England, including a temperance meeting that he attended, which was hosted by Father Mathew. On July 31, he writes again on the same sheet of paper that the plan was changed and he will leave for the US on the day or the day after
