Johnson asks if May received his letter "requesting instruction from the Executive Committee" about sending the "Anti-Slavery Standard" to members of Congress. He tells May that he his office has no list of American Anti-Slavery Society members. Johnson criticizes President Abraham Lincoln and comments on the election of a republican mayor in New York City. He complains of the strongly pro-British attitude of Harriet Martineau
