Oliver Johnson expresses his disappointment in having heard no news from Wendell Phillips concerning his lecture. Johnson states that he has written to Phillips twice, but he has yet to receive any response. Johnson begs Garrison to look up Phillips and ask him to arrive by Monday at latest, and admits that they are in a "state of great anxiety" over the matter. Johnson relates how Parker Pillsbury's late arrival the previous week had ended with "hundreds of persons" leaving without purchasing a ticket, and advises against the last scheduled train. Johnson informs Garrison that he has mailed to him a copy of Garrison's address, printed in pamphlet form
