Oliver Johnson writes to William Lloyd Garrison with a series of questions concerning Garrison's life and history for use in composing a biographical sketch of Garrison for inclusion in the "Cyclopedia". Johnson takes particular interest in the events surrounding Garrison's trial and imprisonment in Baltimore, and in the early meetings of the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society (then the New England Anti-Slavery Society)
