Samuel May, Jr. writes Francis Jackson Garrison thanking him for his "judgement of the Mechanical Dicitonary". May states that William Lloyd Garrison has proposed to give to May the biography of Miss Martineau in lieu of the "Crabb Robinson", but asserts that such a gift defeats his intended purpose in requesting that Garrison grant him leave to exchange gifts, as he labels the biography of Martineau to be "a considerably more costly work"
