Samuel May, Jr. writes Francis Jackson Garrison informing him of his gladness in discovering that the "sorrowful thing" alluded to in the letter of Mr. Fiske does not related to Fiske himself. May states that Fiske has already "named to [May] the fate of Dr. Whitcoub's" set of the Liberator, and states his belief that the Whitcoub's parted with their set erroneously rather than considering it to be nothing more than "waste paper". May expresses his extreme gladness in hearing of Gerrit Smith's contribution of his "Anti-Slavery Collection" to Mr. Fiske, whom May describes as a "real book-enthusiast, & a model librarian". May states that he had discussed with Edmund Quincy on "Cornell & its Antisl: Library", but that Quincy had little faith in the permanency of the collection, and as such could not be counted upon to donate his own archival papers for the library collection
