William Lloyd Garrison writes to his daughter, Fanny Garrison Villard: "I avail myself of the last opportunity to send you and Harry my benediction, and your mother's. I might supplicate the Divine Power to watch over and protect you, grant you a safe and rapid passage across the Atlantic, make your European visit equally serviceable and delightful, and ultimately return you to us, to find us in a better condition as to health than when you left us." William L. Garrison gives advice to Fanny. Mrs. Helen Eliza Garrison "meant to have written you a parting word, but she is now getting her rubbing by Mrs. Smith, and will be too much exhausted to put pen to paper afterward. Besides, the mercury ranges over 90 in the shade."
