On verso, the delivery address is "Rev. Amos A. Phelps, Boston, Mas." It was postmarked with a blue circular stamp that reads "Salem Jul 22"
Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Above the salutation, the number "160" is written in pencil. On the third page, below the signature, there is a small hole towards the spine edge about .4 cm across, and another hole along the fore edge measuring about 1.8 x 1 cm
Charles Turner Torrey writes to Amos A. Phelps stating, "The die is cast and I yesterday announced to my people my determination to leave Salem immediately." Torrey says he wants to attend the "National Convention next week but if I go, it must be as the agent of your (our) or of the American Society." He then asks Phelps to convene a special meeting of his committee to appoint Torrey as agent. He then discusses which agents of their society should be responsible for which Massachusetts counties and proposes a salary of "$1000 & expenses per annum."
