On verso, the delivery address is "Rev. A. A. Phelps, Boston, Mas." It was postmarked with an orange circular stamp that is now illegible
Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on white paper. Above the salutation, the number "72" is written in pencil. On the third page there is a hole about midway down the page, along the fore edge, measuring 1.9 x 1.9 cm. There is also a tear in the page extending out horizontally from this hole, for 17.5 cm. On the fourth page, there is a red seal covered with paper to the spine side of the recipient information
Charles Turner Torrey writes to Amos A. Phelps requesting him to "Come to the rescue lest our moral reform women disgrace themselves and their cause irreparably." Torrey explains that there is a conflict within the moral reform women of Salem, between "the Board" and "Mrs. S.B. Ordway." He tells Phelps of his proposed solution and how it was abandoned by the Board
