Handwritten copy of letter; not William Lloyd Garrison's handwriting. Whereabouts of original manuscript unknown
William Lloyd Garrison declines an invitation to celebrate the one hundredth year of the organization of the old Newburyport Artillery Company, now Company "A" of the 8th Infantry Regiment. William Lloyd Garrison once belonged to the Artillery Company, but has since become an "earnest advocate of the cause of Peace," and therefore he is disinclined "to join in any military celebration whatever."
