On verso, the delivery address is "Rev. Amos A. Phelps, City of New York." It was postmarked on Apr. 14 in Utica, N.Y
It is stamped, "PHELPS MSS."
William Goodell writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding his correspondence with Mr. Bacon on some matters [related to some controversy regarding the General Association of Connecticut and the New York State Anti-Slavery Society ?] for which he needs more information. He then discusses the reason for himself to leave the editorship of the Emancipator. He says his work in Utica amongst the farmers is not less interesting or less important than what he previously was doing. Emphasizing the importance of the State of New York, Goodell says both himself and Phelps had better to stay in New York and labor there
