Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Lauder Light Railway With its fearsome gradients, this must have been a fascinating railway to see in action. It only ran a passenger service for 30 years after its opening in 1901. It was built after the passing of the Light Railways Act in 1896 which shortened the planning procedures in an attempt to fill the last few gaps in the rural rail network. The wee railways were built just in time to face competition from the motor bus. This is near the top of the pass between Oxton and Fountainhall, under Longmuir Rig. The trackbed between Threeburnford and Middletoun is signposted as a path, and is a delightful, easy walk. Today it was a bit special, a lark sang briefly, the first of the year.
