Testun:

O fewn Sefydlaid Alfred Wegener, yn yr Antartig, mae na wyddonwyr yn ymchwilio i sut mae'r hinsawdd wedi newid yn hanes y Ddaear.

Mae'r creiddiau iâ (neu 'ice cores') yn fath o archif o hanes hinsawdd y Ddaear. Ym mhob un, mae na wybodaeth am y nwyon ty-gwydr yn yr amgylchedd a hynny dros filoedd o flynyddoedd.

"Tynnwyd y craidd-iâ yma, er enghraifft, 808 i 809 metr o dan yr wyneb.

Mae hi wastad yn bwrw eira yn yr Antartig, ac mae nodweddion gwahanol yr atmosffer yn glynnu yn yr eira hwn yn wrth iddo ddisgyn.

Wrth ddrilio i lawr yr haen drwchus o rew, rydan ni'n mynd yn ôl mewn hanes!

Mi fedra i wedyn ymchwilio yr hen haenau yma a chanfod nodweddion yr atmosffer yr amser hwnnw.

Er enghraifft, dyma haen o ludw tywyll o losgfynydd, sydd fel y gwelwch tua dwy gentimetr o drwch!"

I ddadansoddi'r sampl, mae'r gwyddonwyr yn tynnu'r nwyon o'r rhew,

Mewn dull reit debyg i ymchwil fforensig ar gorff ein planed!
