Description
Referens: En liknande burk finns avbildad i Walter Bondys bok "Kang-Hsi, eine Blüte-Epoche der Chinesischen Porzellan-Kunst", München 1923.Dehua ware porcelain brushpot. Ming dynasty, 16th-17th centuryThis piece is of good style and quality. It is a brushpot, used for storing brushes in tip upwards when writing or painting. Its carved openwork style is more often seen in late Ming dynasty wood and bamboo, and was more difficult to achieve in porcelain. The brushpot bears three panels decorated with auspicious birds and flowers. On the panel shown here, a long-tailed bird and chrysanthemum plants are seen. The long-tailed bird (sometimes called ”phoenix” in the West) symbolises virtue and grace, and the chrysenthemum longevity.
