Schmidt / Nideggen 1981 – 42 min Aufnahme: Gabriel Simons; Schnitt/Kommentar: Ute Herborg Zu Beginn des Verkohlungsprozesses bringen die Köhler das Vorfeuer in den Füllschacht ein, der dann von unten nach oben durchglüht. Teil der üblichen Wartungsarbeiten ist, die Rauchlöcher in regelmäßigen Abständen tiefer zu legen. Dadurch lenken die Köhler den Schwelbrand gezielt von oben über die Meilerflanken bis zur Basis des Kegels. Wenn der Meiler durchgekohlt ist, räumen die Männer die Kohle abschnittsweise aus, wenden und gießen sie, bis sie in Säcke abgefüllt und abgefahren wird. Die Vorgänge im Inneren des Meilers werden anhand von Tricksequenzen dargestellt. |
