This Iceland volcano eruption is a GELDINGADALIR volcano located in FAGRADALSFJALL on the Reykjanes Peninsula. It was such an incredible adventure. Iceland is one of the most geologically active places on Earth. A volcanic eruption is quite obviously an unpredictable and immensely dangerous force of nature. In general viewing, such a spectacle is prohibited by poisonous gas, risk of exposure to scorching hot lava, and other various hazards. The volcano was dormant for 6,000 years before it erupted on March 19, 2021, 25 miles away from Reykjavik. A volcano that spewed glowing red lava in Iceland’s although this volcano has not erupted since last and the first time in 800 years. red lava bubbled and flowed outing a valley in Geldingadalir, close to Mount Fagradalsfjall on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwestern Iceland. Iceland's volcanic belt has 35 active volcanoes. Iceland is a volcanic island so volcanic activity is normal. The previous times there have been eruptions in the area, the activity went on for 120 years, 100 years and 300 years. So it looks like we might be in for the long haul. The volcano has been spewing out around 5 cubic meters per second (m3/s) of hot lava, around 5 million cubic meters every day. The 1.220-1.240°C (2.228-2.264F) hot lava is the hottest to ever have been measured in Iceland. The lava has a chemical signature of a deep origin and the volcano is therefore suspected to be feed by a large reservoir of molten lava at depth of about 17-20km (10.5-12.5 miles). |
