Description
English: Grand Canyon in February 2012.
(View, about west-northwest, from Yavapai Point, South Rim-Grand Canyon Village, up Trinity Creek canyon, across Granite Gorge (parts of Grand Canyon Metamorphic Complex, ancient rock units)). The landform right is en:Isis Temple and Cheops Pyramid sitting on large vertical cliffs of Redwall Limestone, upon slopes, then cliffs of Shinumo Quartzite, an ancient "en:monadnock"-and also the "Unkar Group horst", at Isis Temple, and later uplifted into a horst with units 1, 2, and 3 of the 5-unit en:Unkar Group. Up Trinity Creek, is a fault, thus the vertical cliffs (not present under Isis Temple) of resistant, short en:Tapeats Sandstone, (Tapeats Sea, the en:Great Unconformity), and the resistant Tapeats the basis for the Tonto Platform, on parts of north side, and south side Granite Gorge. The en:Tonto Trail traverses the south side, Granite Gorge.
The Supai Group redbeds are also visible. Just left of the Isis Temple prominence, is the flat-topped-(en:Kaibab Limestone/Kaibab Formation)-(prominence)-Shiva Temple, a sub-plateau, southwest of the major en:Kaibab Plateau. (Note: its geologic sequences appear thicker-(than cliffs on the horizon), because of its closer position to the viewpoint.)
