Parrots.
The painting depicts two white cockatoos and one amazon parrot in a tree. The dark background and the composition of the birds give the painting a study-like expression.
The white cockatoos are to be found in Southeast Asia while the third bird originates from South America. The painting was maybe executed in Amsterdam, one of the few places in the world where two such rare birds could meet at that time. We know for certain through his correspondence that Wrangel ordered a bird of this kind as a gift for his wife, and maybe it is one of these.
