Summary
[edit]DescriptionConstruction Works in Galashiels - geograph.org.uk - 247850.jpg |
English: Construction Works in Galashiels. This photo taken on 14/04/06 shows Galashiels health centre in the foreground with a major extension taking place. The red sandstone building behind was originally the Scottish Woollen Technical College and later used as government offices, but is now almost completely demolished. The demolition of this building has been an emotive issue with locals and has caused great debate in the local press, particularly as it is to become a supermarket car park. The 4-storey former mill building to the left has been demolished to make way for a new TESCO superstore. St Paul's Church and steeple can be seen in the background. |
