Summary
[edit]DescriptionBay View House at the end of Sea View Terrace - geograph.org.uk - 719922.jpg |
English: Bay View House at the end of Sea View Terrace Bay View was the company store and bakehouse. The Calvinistic Methodist chapel on the other side of the track doubled as a schoolroom. In the interwar years there were two other shops in the village - George Williams' in a shed behind the chapel and that of Evan Wynne Owen of Llithfaen at the end of Mountain View. Supplies for the shops were brought down to the village by horse drawn sledges. The village also had a daily postal service. The postman first rode 7 miles from Pwllheli to Llithfaen where he had a five minute rest. He then delivered mail in the Llithfaen area before walking to Porth y Nant arriving there at around 10am. Having finished his round he would retire to a hut until 3pm when he collected the mail from the village post box, then walked to Llithfaen for a 4pm collection and then cycled to Pwllheli to catch the mail train. |
