Image with video screens in them

[1] I think I agree with this removal from the page. It's a very fine point as to whether the image isn't a photographer's to license because there was a video screen in it. Not that I disagree about these images specifically, but I don't think the deletion of these specific images imply that other images from [name deleted] will probably be of questionable licenses. I'm willing to believe that he did take them, and that most pictures from his account will likely be fine. --AnonEMouse 18:01, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Hi, AnonEMouse. I have edited your post above because you re-added the name of a person whose name I deleted--explicitly noted in the edit history--from this page. My apologies in advance for any misunderstanding. I will send a note to your talk page too. Thank you. -Susanlesch 21:08, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Carl Malmud has a flickr-account for his public.resources.org project. All the pictures there are released under free licences. He is not the author of any of this pictures, but fights the Smithsonian Institute, see his statement. The Smithsonian only releases its pictures as fair use and since he thinks that's not ok he took them and released them under a licence of his choice. There is no indication that any of the authors wants them under the licence he choose for them. So until he wins that fight and the real authors allow the usage under whatever licence the pictures are not usable for Commons. -- Cecil 11:50, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree. If he's not the author, and the images are copyrighted, he can't put them under free licenses. I've put the account on the list. Superm401 - Talk 04:28, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
However, it appears that not all the SI images are actually copyrighted. Superm401 - Talk 04:41, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
Sure, but than the source should be the SI and not Malamuds Flickr-account.-- Cecil 15:06, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

schmaberton

Per Commons:Deletion requests/Image:BrewsterSchoolhouse.jpg, I believe schmaberton should be added to the list. Superm401 - Talk 04:26, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Having tangled for several weeks with schmaberton images (and the mess of sockpuppets at English Wikipedia that are associated with that account), I agree, so I added that account to the list. (Your post made me aware of this project page.) My apologies if my action violated protocol for this project page. --Orlady 01:13, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Automated review

I enabled automated review. It is currently experimental and administrators should be very careful when adding items to User:FlickreviewR/bad-authors -- Bryan (talk to me) 14:14, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Nice, but what strikes me is the duplication. A regexp to turn the table on this page into that format would be something simple like s/{{qfi|.*|\(\d*@N\d\d\).*\n/\1 /. Wouldn't it be better to protect this page (or putting the table in a protected, transcluded subpage) and use it as-is? LX (talk, contribs) 20:47, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Could be done, but it should in any case be protected as I don't want any user being able to give the bot arbitrary commands. -- Bryan (talk to me) 20:55, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
I've moved the table to the edit-protected Commons:Questionable Flickr images/Users. LX (talk, contribs) 21:32, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Question about a CC Non-Commercial Share Alike Flikr image

Hi! I found http://www.flickr.com/photos/marctonysmith/2561420621/ - It seems to be a legitimate photo, but when I went to the Commons upload form I found that I was surprised by the form saying that CC Non-Commercial Share Alike photos are not okay. Why is this? Can I upload this onto Wikipedia EN? (Since I intend for the image to be used on EN?) WhisperToMe (talk) 04:08, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

No, CC-NC-SA is not a permitted license. Commons only accepts images which are free for any use, including commercial use.
If you wish to upload it to English Wikipedia, you would need to make a fair use claim (and you'll have to ask there for details of fair use rules). Stifle (talk) 14:59, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Alternately, you can contact the flickr user to see if they'd be willing to flip it to a usable license. I've had good luck a few times, especially when they find out it'll be used on WP. rootology (T) 22:29, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

A link to the discussion debate shown above should be added in the "comment" box by the flickr user Emil Rensing aka emilgh. -- FP (talk) 13:27, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

killerfan619

I originally put this here, but there was no response, and it might be better off here:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&ns0=1&ns6=1&ns9=1&ns12=1&ns14=1&redirs=0&search=killerfan619&limit=500&offset=0

http://flickr.com/photos/27531285@N06

The user is basically uploading his favorite photos to Flickr using a "some rights reserved" license, which is why some commons users are uploading them to the Commons. Some of them are clearly professional photos. Some of them are my photos, which I've already tagged for speedy delete since I have the exact original source. Some of them are other fan photos.

While I can't prove that all of his photos have an invalid license, the fact that he's had so many invalid ones should be enough to have all of his photos removed.

✓ Done, see Commons:Deletion requests/Images of Flickr user killerfan619 and added to QFI. --Martin H. (talk) 04:45, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Another candidate for the list

Flickr user carittaruborizadda http://www.flickr.com/photos/35696094@N05/.

flickr577

http://www.flickr.com/people/36175270@N02/ is the Userwiki (talk · contribs) trying to fake licenses uploading images candidates for deletion. See for example File:Parque Aquático Sport.jpg (tagged by me as npd) and the newly uploaded from flickr File:Sport Parque Aquático do Sport.jpg. Lugusto 00:19, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Not needed i think, I already noticed the user some days ago and no stoped this. The problem with Userwiki (talk · contribs) flickr account is, that he has all images (except one) hidden because he probably did not know how to handle Flickr. No danger from this account. --Martin H. (talk) 16:55, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Friskytuna

Please add friskytuna; this user has uploaded several obvious copyvios to Flickr as CC-by. See deleted image Anniewersching.jpg for example of image uploaded to commons and approved by FlickreviewR bot. Mike R (talk) 14:02, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

deelovely_67

Flickr user uploads need to be checked - seems to contain mostly promotional images/wallpapers without a clear source with many of them "released" under cc-by. There's no profile info indicating a professional photographer. --Denniss (talk) 12:52, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

more candidates

Flickr user wjwmorrow is a candidate as he/she uploaded my image File:LucMontagnier1995 065.jpg under his own name (without crediting me) to Flickr and put it under (C). He did the same with File:Luc_Montagnier-press_conference_Dec_06th,_2008-5_crop.jpg.

Flickr user Juniorrowling might be a candidate as he/she uploaded my image File:MailaenderDom.jpg under his own name (without crediting me) to Flickr and put it under (C). The same Flickr user has also uploaded File:TajMahalbyAmalMongia.jpg under his name and put it under (C). This repeat-copyviolator has also File:Colosseum in Rome, Italy - April 2007.jpg on on his Flickr account. --Túrelio (talk) 14:14, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Flickr user christoron is a candidate as he/she uploaded my image File:MotherTeresa 090.jpg‎ under his own name (without crediting me, of course) to Flickr and put it under (C).--Túrelio (talk) 08:26, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Flickr user DaisyUp has a promo shot of Romain Grosjean on her/his account, that was then uploaded as File:Romain Grosjean 2009 R29 Launch.jpg to Commons, while here the image is clearly marked as copyrighted and "by Bernard Asset". --Túrelio (talk) 07:29, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

Not done. Hi Turelio, as an admin you can easyly add users to the list yourself, therefore i will not see my following closing as the last word. Adding this users is not needed. Non of this images are marked cc-by or cc-by-sa, so adding them to the list would not follow the purpose to prevent copyvio uploads. This applies for all users listed above.
--Martin H. (talk) 22:25, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
--Túrelio (talk) 07:12, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
--Martin H. (talk) 13:18, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

jcaceres39

jcaceres39 appears to be a Flickr washing account for Lolin (talk · contribs). This image, uploaded as File:Gareca U.jpg, turned out to be an obvious copyvio, and this image was previously uploaded as File:Despedida del Puma.jpg. --Ytoyoda (talk) 04:57, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

new candidate

Flickr member XOPAUXO obviously is a fan of Freddie Mercury and seems to try to use his Flickr account to Flickr wash professional image of Freddy Mercury[2], [3], [4], that were uploaded to Flickr on May 10/11, 2009. All three images were then uploaded by Xopauxowiki90 (talk · contribs) (compare with Flickr name) to Commons, providing Flickr as source. Classical Flickr washing. --Túrelio (talk) 15:43, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

✓ Done Flickrwashing by "The Michael" and already on the list, used by sockpuppets of Special:WhatLinksHere/User:Mike09.

Flickr user yellowblade67 may be another candidate. "His" image of Balthazar Getty was uploaded to Commons as File:Balthazargetty.jpg, but then found to be likely copyrighted: [5] and [6]. --Túrelio (talk) 21:58, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Bad Fickr user, had him already in the past. The stream is obvious:
  • this is a 1024 px file with a 1500 px filename - simply the original filename was kept, so enter this to google leads to his/her source
  • Some photos are attributed to their source like this or this - regretably some transferers dont see such obvious things.

I just noted that Myself was already faster, I recently added this Flickr user ;) --Martin H. (talk) 22:58, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Remko van Dokkum

Another apparent licence problem Flickr user Remko van Dokkum. In reference to deletion request at Commons:Deletion requests/File:World trade center new york city construction flickr.jpg I asked the Flickr user if they were the photographer of the image. They replied:

"as a reply on your question on my image http://www.flickr.com/photos/remkovandokkum/161184511/ all info is in the description of the photoset this image belongs to http:www.flickr.com/photos/remkovandokkum/sets/72157594156456480/ i'm not the fotographer"

I replied back noting Flickr policy, saying I strongly suggest that any photos that they didn't take should be tagged "all rights reserved" (unless they are known to be public domain). In the mean time, I note that several other images by this Flickr user had been uploaded to Commons. The ones from the set linked above I am speedy deleting. Should we blacklist all images from this Flickr user as unreliable license claim? Infrogmation (talk) 22:04, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

a new one? (Christian17vigo)

cristian17vigo and Cristian17 vigo (talk · contribs) do look like a new Flickr-washing team. On the Flickr account there are a lot of album covers, mostly of the group en:Deathstars and licensed under CC-BY-SA, that have been uploaded to Flickr today and then to Commons, also today. Very unlikely that the user has permission of the group/record company to put album covers under a free license. --Túrelio (talk) 15:06, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

I deleted this uploads already some times - some sockpuppetry I suspect. I also found the original sources for some images, so there is no doubt. I will add him after I cared about Deathstars (talk · contribs), the newest uploader. --Martin H. (talk) 15:50, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Flickr user saital

Per OTRS 2009101210030892, saital has stolen numerous images and licensed them freely. I don't believe the content from this user can be trusted, and thus should be added to this list. For review, check out http://www.pbase.com/k_amj/image/73356431 vs. http://www.flickr.com/photos/57235830@N00/426393799/. There are also notes on other images in that photostream pointing out other copyright violations. -Andrew c (talk) 13:56, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Support this, pick a random image from that screen and look at the TinEye record (see e.g. http://www.flickr.com/photos/saital/2497123116/ -> http://tineye.com/search/5847384985df0ae1214557ae623a776ddd5ad262).
