- @Ciell: this project, which has been going on for 3 years, is not a competition strictly speaking, and there will be no more photos accumulated. The purpose of using Montage at this stage of the project is to determine, according to the jury, the top 50 best photos in this category. Ultimately, Wikimedia Canada will make an exhibition in Montreal, then a permanent exhibition in Manawan. Thank you in advance for facilitating the installation of Montage to complete this project. Preparation for WLM 2021 in Italy
We are thinking about new some special prizes for WLM 2021 in Italy, such as one for photos of less known or represented monuments; in order to organize it, we would like to keep a jury consultation with Montage, may we have a campaign set up for it? If you would like to have the same picture in two or more campaigns, I think you would only need to make sure these images are in these both categories: Montage pulls in the pictures through the category that they are in. - Hi @Ysogo: I've sent one of the developers an email to get him to have a look at this request, but he has not yet replied and maybe busy with other things atm. I am not sure if Montage will be able to attend to your needs for this: could I ask you to create a ticket request in phabricator using the #Montage tag? It will then be a question visible for all programmers, and not be depending on the one or two watching this page.

To the best of my understanding, Montage as-is can already support our need: we need to open a campaign to judge the pictures that we collected in User:Ysogo/Sandbox B (that are the ones that are rated as most important for each of the monument in one italian region). @Ciell: Hello, I'm facing a strange issue. To prepare the Round1 of the campaign, I opted to use "File" to load the list of the image. Hence I saved the content of User:Ysogo/Sandbox B in a local .txt (listing 1 file x line in the txt without the leading "File:" as per instruction) and I put the name of the file in the Round setting page. I also turned off all test for "disqualification" in the settings. But when I save the Round, Montage after some seconds returns the following message: "Import Warning/ import issues - no entries imported - all entries disqualified by round settings". Hi Ysogo, I'm sorry that we got no reply from the team, but I did notice today that you managed to get the rounds working. Is everything working for you now? Did the bug disappear from itself, or did you come up with a work around? If so, could you maybe share the solution you found for the error you got back in March/April? - Hello Ciell. Actually, I applied a workaround: I added a dedicated category to the pictures that I wanted to be voted and I set up the campaign based on the directory. Montage through File is still not working. --Ysogo (talk) 21:26, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

- @Ciell: I give up. I could start off the 'fresh' campaign, but the 'national' campaign is still unsolvable. During countless tries, I never managed to get files assigned to jurors as tasks; one time I did but for some reasons there were twice as many tasks as expected (meaning that jurors would have to evaluate every single file twice). - Hi Gikü, not really sure why this is going wrong here, but did you maybe delete the round I had set up...? With the box behind "disqualify by size" and the file size set to 2000000 (default-settings of Montage), images smaller then 2000000kb will be disqualified: it is better to either lower the kb-size, or uncheck this box. I thought I had done that when creating both rounds, but apparently it was not anymore when I reviewed the settings again just now. If you click on activate through the link here in the bottom the jury should be able to start judging 1555 images for you. The quorum in your original settings has been set for 2 jurors to look at every picture, so they will all have to look at a bit over 1000 images. If you drop this quorum in the first round, it brings down the number to 500 images they'll have to look at - assuming good faith with your jurors, for the round one selections this might be an option. There is no limit to the amount of rounds you can have the jurors do, so even 2 yes/no round to start could be enough to move towards a final 100, and maybe end with a ranking round when there are 25 or less images left. A round can still be changes by you as the coordinator until the first activation of the round, so you can remove the quorum from this round (my recommendation) by clicking "edit round" in the top. - One of the rules of WLE Moldova 2021 states that the winning photos must have at least 2Megapixels (product of width and height). Each time I was designing a round I was setting the 'Disqualify by resolution' to 2000000 as per rules. I did not have a single clue that this number is not taken at face value – from what you've said this is actually the 'size in kilobytes' (??!).

Problem with ? in file name

- @Ciell: , they have started voting and a couple of odd things are happening.
1st.- The original category has 248 files. Only 171 have being included in the votation (more about that later). Those 171 files are being sent to the jurors in blocks of 204 or 206 files. That means that at least 33 items are just the same file presented twice.
2nd.- 77 files have been removed from the votation but we don't understand why. They are of diferent sizes, dates of uploading, dates of production. We cannot find what they have in common. I have put them in Category:Fotos de Muixerangues que no salen para elegir. Many of them are pretty small (under 1 Mb, even under 100kB) but others are "medium sized".
Is it that we did something wrong?

- 1) You have set a quorum for at least 3 jurors per image. So 3x171 image views needed = 513 images. Did you start the first round twice? Montage does not notice duplicates with a second pull in, for instance by starting the first round a second time, and 2x513 images = 1026 tasks for the jurors. 1026/5 jurors = indeed 204/206 images per person.
- 2) All values for the round are set to 'true'. So all option are applied, including the ones for quality ("Disqualify by resolution") and for instance upload date ("Disqualify by upload date") where sometimes if the images is edited and the participants uploads a new version, this latest upload date will be pulled into montage, and if this corrected file is uploaded after the closing date, the image will be disqualified.
- I learned from a previous case that there is only one solution for problem 1), and that is to create a new campaign for you. Should I go forward and start a new campaign? Ciell (talk) 17:54, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Our jurors have problems to access Montage. On pressing "Log in using Wikimedia account", the server returns the following error

It seems that Montage fails to communicate with the Central Authentication system. This problem does not occur for people who used Montage recently and are already logged in, but it happens for all "new" users (like those who did not use Montage since last year). Hi, I have a meeting for the next edition of Wiki Science Competition on October 8th and I had to open Montage to check my old campaigns. I was revising my folder of the previous editions and I was looking for all old summary xls files, I realized I was missing few of them in my archive (I usually save everything with a local copy)
For some reason, I cannot log in on Montage, this have been occurring since at least 3 days. In the meantime, have asked around to other users who were previously jurors an they get the same error message of "Internal server error". - Also, i now you are a volunteer. Please notice: that is why you should not make more than necessary, or you would have even less time to do the important task, which is giving the campaign. Not setting it up or asking for all the details, this should be done if specifically required by users. If they had problems in the past, please remind them that they can ask for more help.
- So, to sum up. we could have had a campaign ready before October, 1st (when you read the request), like every other years. Not starting it at a late night of the final day (as I did in the past after the check), but waiting few days when Montage was off, and starting it on October 5th. Instead I had to wait and I was not given access or even pinged. What was the point?
- Now, I had to go for plan B, which I could have done since the beginning, I was trying to wait (and I also had to slow down the request from the local coordinator to start asap) but at the second mail from a juror, I had no other option. So I solved it and we started it in another way.
- if you think you need more help for bottlenecks, please consider giving me access to your role. I know what I can do, I have witnessed all the problems over the years (plus I am the first translator of it-N the page here), it's really no big deal. Ciell and Ciell we already started our campaign. Some of our jurors are people with their own page on Wikipedia, because they are quite important or busy in theri field. We ask them to do the work every year at the same level of our wiki jurors, inclusing the basic sorting but they don't have a lot of flexible time. If we don't start where is more or less supposed to start, they can't join us. I always had a plan B, but I asked the local coordinator to point out again that Montage was ready days ago. After we were stuck for more days, we went for plan B. I will add Marta to our current campaign in few days. - I am not familiar with the Wiki Loves Classics competition I think, so maybe you could share the link to the competition page or the initiative with me? And with "my campaign" you are referring to the #Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 Tuscany on this page, correct? According to Marta Arosio (WMIT) and #Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 this competition has also not yet ended.
- Setting up a campaign cost me a few minutes per campaign, and because loading the campaign before the competition has ended causes errors in the loading of the images into Montage and therefore way more time for all parties involved, I absolutely prefer to just receive a ping when a campaign is needed. - The WLC "effort" is something we do in addition to existing WLM competitions. It's a parallel process, it simply uses the files from WLM. See Commons:Wiki_Loves_Classics_2019 and Commons:Wiki_Loves_Classics_2020... we use it to refine existing files, improve their metadata and at the same time, we select the best ones. It's not an "outreach" effort. While checking them, files are transferred in a specific category and further analyzed. Jurors also help (if expert) with their clean-up. I have not made the page yet because it's a summary page not a promotional page. With this analysis, we can select critical situations and spot countries who might need some feedback to handle this content. Based on that feedback, we are for example proposing literacy classes about Wikidata and file management for the Wiki World heritage User Group in the Global South. Last year we did not use Montage, but we think we can use it again this year.
- I am sure people can get confused with deadlines but this never occurred to me... never had any problem, I worked with many campaigns as manager (Tuscany WLM, Liguria WLM, Portugal WLM, all Wiki Science Competitions) and I only need a blank link with the role of manager, I can fix settings. My main issue so far was a weird upload bug with non-Latin scripts, not deadline. Honestly, I don't recall giving deadline information before. you are probably using some workflow intended for newbies of the tool.
- Since I was here for another campaign, I ask you that one as well. Like I did for example in 2019... but again if you want to wait, let's wait.
- This has nothing to do with Marta Arosio (WMIT)'s comment. Honestly, I would not talk too much but if you want to know, the local campaigns of WLM in Italy were in parallel to the national competition until 2018, they were experiments to engage communities and they worked. Ours worked very well. In 2018 the manager changed, the office was in critical situation and she was rushed in fixing it. Not her fault there, she was new and not very expert of Montage, I had to explain to her the tool for example. In order to help WMI to complete the season we accepted the task of selecting the images as a pre-jury but we stated that using local selections as prerequisite of national sorting was not an optimal idea because it creates strong fluctuation. Plus, competitions might have different goals. Our goal is to depicts the variety of the region, not to get a "best" image that can be everything depending on the jury. To have a enduring competition working for free you need to adapt to the local taste. So for example we prefer to remove similar images of the same monuments.
- Now I can tell you much more about it (I would enjoy it :D ) but long story short, we got our parallel competition back. As you can see since 2020 all Tuscan images go to a local category but also to a miscellaneous generic categories (e.g. here in 2021). This means WMI does not need to strictly overview anything. The images are part of the national selection via this category, but the local category is not used by WMI, and that's the category where we work. That's why we present them separately on the international summary page as well. We are the first or second region every year, but while #1 region can change we are consistently a small country on our own. We even have exchange of jurors with other national juries (Portugal).
- I asked this year's local coordinator if the jury was separated again, we checked that the category was separate (as it should be), I started to assemble the jury, and as soon as I had my 10th confirmed name I came here and asked for it. As I did in 2018, 2019, 2020 maybe... I have no idea why WMI really needs to ask for something that we are managing independently, but if you want to put her name, go on. last year we discussed to add the local coordinator of WMI in Tuscany, for example (but later I teached him Montage on another campaign).--Alexmar983 (talk) 23:44, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you Ciell for setting up our campaign. When trying to set up the first round of the campaign, I'm not getting any images imported. Does it work for the rest of you or is this related to the technichal issues with Montage? I can set up the round with directions and add jury members, but the images in the category are not imported and if I try to edit the round it does not work to add the images either. - I think that if Montage doesn't load the campaign because the box 'Disqualify jurors' is checked and there are indeed images in the category that are uploaded by one of the jurors, this is correct behavior of the tool, but maybe the description could be improved.

- Hi @Ciell, up and running to a good start for the jury now. My expectation for what will happen when I leave the Disqualify jurors checkbox checked is as described in the Round settings, that images uploaded from my jurors are disqualified and not the the jury member is disqualified from being part of the jury. A clarification might be in order to make it easier to understand if the jurors are disqualified from participating in the competition or as jurors, but the description under Round settings should be enough I think. On a side note I would like to have the Disqualify coordinators and Disqualify organizers (or Disqualify others) implemented to make it easier to disqualify Haxpett (my volunteer user) and other WMSE staff members without manually checking after round 2. - Hi Sindiept, here is your campaign: 483-wiki-loves-monuments-2021-in-zimbabwe. I did notice however that for WLM Zimbabwe you received less then 100 images, and in that case Montage might be quite time consuming and not worth your and the juries energy. The Montage interface and workflow can take a bit of time to get the hang of, and needs two or three rounds to come to a conclusion.
- It might be less work to ask the jury to send you their top ten from the 67 images in the category: you can for instance create a gallery page as a subpage from Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 in Zimbabwe to have all images in one page for the jury - this is how we used to do things before we had Montage (or at least one of the methods that were used.) With 127 images, 3 judges per photo, it will give 97 images per judge. - Hi Rhododendrites, here is your campaign: 471-wiki-loves-nyc-parks-prospect-park-2021. The images will not get pulled into Montage until you activate the first round: until then you have the opportunity to add or remove images from the category you will be using for the jury process. You'll notice I have set the end date for the contest on 'today', nov 10th: this is because when a file is altered after the date we give here (cropping, light balance, etc), Montage will consider them to be not eligible. So when setting up the rounds, always consider prolonging this date, see Commons:Montage#Step_1._Check_your_campaign_settings.

- Meant in this context are edits of the photo, so for instance new versions of already existing images. General maintenance of the file pages should not be of influence of images being imported to Montage, but just to be sure always take the 'day of today' when activating the first round. Hi, i have one jury member who has ranked twice the photos in ranking view but failed somehow to save the results. User think that she least tried to save the results and she is technically able person so there is clearly something which needs attention. Either in user interface or actual bug. I will try to check the problem via screen sharing. In the ongoing Wiki Loves NYC Parks - Prospect Park Nature Photography Contest, We've had a couple rounds of voting, then had a meeting to determine the finalists. I'd now like to take a subset of images to a final ranking round. I'm pretty sure I've seen that happen in other competitions, but I can't see how it's done. To be clear, this subset doesn't correspond to a specific rating/ranking/average score but rather based on off-wiki discussion. Can I load in a csv of files or something? - Hi Rhododendrites, in a new campaign it will be possible to pull in the images to Montage through a cvs list - this does not work in a already active campaign. If you want to do a ranking round, remember that the ranking round is limited to 50 images.

Hello, we are running WHindanger photography contest in four countries, and prizes will be awarded per site. Therefore, we would like to set up Montage campaigns for 14 specific categories:

- Hi Nassima Chahboun, I created a 'demo' campaign for you for this: 477-whindanger-2021-demo-campaign, and propose you for instance use Category:Whindanger 2021 Ghadames (52 images now) or Category:Whindanger 2021 Leptis Magna (93 images now). They have enough images to show the three different sort of rounds, but not as much to consume a lot of time for you. I would also very much appreciate if you could upload and share your jury instruction on Commons, for other future campaign coordinators and jurors in the Montage tool! Hi NANöR, Nassima Chahboun, Nehaoua: your campaigns are ready, I linked them in your table above. You can start preparing the first rounds, but please do not activate it before the competitions have ended (activating the first round is the moment when all images get pulled into Montage - setting rounds up before is okay though!). Happy judging, great to see a photo initiative like this: imho they are extra special, because "There is a deadline."

- I am not sure how Montage will handle the categories with just a few images, less then 50, I'd love to hear back from you on this!
- As an alternative, you may for instance want to create a gallery page with the images in the smaller categories, and ask your jurors to just send you their top 10 by email.
