To get this straight:

  • If we change Cwm into Corries and the bot then classifies all Cwm into Corries in Wales, or Corries in Scotland or Corries in England.

or does itt just plonk them all into Category:Corries.

  • Category:Corries doesn exist but should. Do I create Category:Corries, and automagic will create the sub categories for me or must I create Category:Corries, Category:Corries by country, Category:Corries in the United Kingdom, Category:Corries in England/ Wales/Scotland...

That sorted I do need a relaxing activity like this tonight --ClemRutter (talk) 20:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that Commons does not have Category:Cwm or Category:Corries. You should just find the best fitting category. If we does not have a suitable category and there is a lot of images that could go in this category then we have to create them (semi-automatic). If you are not sure just give your best shot and add a lot of ??????????? so we can see it needs attention. And thank you for helping :-) --MGA73 (talk) 21:12, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The bot tries to find the most specific category and will find it if it knows the location and a tree has been build. MGA73 has a handy script to create these trees.
BTW, looks like we use Category:Cirques here (found it from en:Corrie). Multichill (talk) 21:16, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ooops: the language has changed since I last used it, pity that en:Corrie is so poorly referenced. That was one example:but others abound. I happy to create and place a new category in the tree, if you tell me where I should just create the high level term and leave it to the bot to create the sub categories. But for the moment I will just comment in my suggestions.--ClemRutter (talk) 22:07, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would be happy if you could match the Geograph categories (imageclasses) to current Commons categories at User:MGA73/Sandbox. I don't think a lot of new trees have to be created. Expanding the current trees is the next step when we have mapped all items on User:MGA73/Sandbox. Multichill (talk) 22:11, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have done the easy mappings. Using find and replace in gedit I have added an s to the suggestions, and checked for blue links when written in Category:format. All of the blue links are now at the bottom of page in the Suggestions made section. I cannot read the mind of the Geograph uploader- but I think all of the suggestions should be reasonable. Some of the geograph classes are do reveal holes on our cat trees. Iĺl leave it now and come back tonight.--ClemRutter (talk) 11:20, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe I used same trick a few days ago (adding the s). But sometimes the blue link is a redirect so if you stil have the list with the blue links maybe you could click them all?
And feel free to do all the edits you want. I do not mind if theres 10 or 100 as long as the job is done :-) --MGA73 (talk) 11:43, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you are vaguely interested- this is my working page User:ClemRutter/New category suggestions. There are a few more in progress- but I won't post them yet. --ClemRutter (talk) 19:45, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
