Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in Cambodia
Wiki Loves Monuments (http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org) is an annual international photography contest and crowdsourcing event in which participants photograph and upload images of historic monuments to Wikimedia Commons. These images are then available for free use on Wikipedia and beyond. More details about this year's annual competition can be found at Wiki Loves Monuments 2014. The competition takes place throughout the month of September each year.
This will be the first time Cambodia has taken part in the competition, and everyone is welcome to get involved, whether as a participant (photographer), organizational volunteer, or both. There is no requirement for participants or volunteers to be from Cambodia. The Cambodia part of the competition, Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in Cambodia, is volunteer-led, with significant support from our local Wikimedia Community of Cambodia (our FB Fan page).
About the contest
[edit]Wiki Loves Monuments in Cambodia follows the same rules as the international competition. Every submission should be:
- Self taken and self uploaded;
- Uploaded in September 2014;
- Freely licensed;
- Contain a listed monument at the time of judgement;
Next to that, there are a few practical rules:
- The participant should have an activated e-mail address on the upload platform;
- The first winner will get to choose the first prize etc. (TBC)
Uploaded photographs do not have to be taken during September 2014, and they must NOT have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons before. Dissemination of photographs through other channels before September 2014 is fine. Participants are free to take photographs of any eligible building, even if Commons already has one or more photographs, but of course a new angle or a new detail is more useful to the project than simply repeating what has been done before.
For this year's competition we are concentrating on Cambodia's historical sites recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and other relevant government agencies/authorities. For more details, see Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in Cambodia/Eligible sites.
Volunteers are currently being sought to help organize the contest. If you can help, think you might like to take part in September, or would just like to register your support, please add your name at Commons:Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in Cambodia/People.
Remember to subscribe to the Wikimedia-KH mailing list as well.
