Wiki Loves Monuments (http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org) is an annual photography contest organised by Wikimedia, the movement behind Wikipedia, to crowd source images of monuments. The images are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons under a free-use license for use on Wikipedia. Began in 2010 in the Netherlands, the competition takes place during the month of September each year.

About the Contest

[edit]

Photos are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons by the participant during the month of September 2014. Pictures do not need to be taken during that time, but are only eligible if they meet the following requirements:

  • Taken and uploaded by the participant
  • Uploaded during the month of September 2014
  • Licensed under a free Creative Commons license or released into the Public Domain

A list of eligible monuments will be posted prior to the beginning of the contest. A national competition will be held with the top 10 entrants nominated for the international competition. In order to claim a prize the participant must use a valid email address when uploading the photo.
