KGS number ??

I am trying to enter your contest, but find it very user unfriendly, firstly when I try to upload from my apple mac, it does nto have a continue button to proceed to the next step. Then when I do it on windows it is fine, but I have no idea what a KGs number is. Could you please let me know what it is and how to find the number

What is the correct means of contributing a photo after the end of the contest? I would like to upload photos of a monument (a US National Historic District listed on the map with a red pin). However, when I use the map upload tool (http://wikilovesmonuments.us/find-a-monument-to-photograph/) and click on the pin, I get a message in a pink box (on page https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&withCSS=MediaWiki:WLMUSA.css&campaign=wlm-us&id=4000672&descriptionlang=en&description=Livingston%20Manor%20Historic%20District,%20Roughly%20bounded%20by%20Cleveland,%20Grant,%20Harrison,%20Lawrence,%20Lincoln,%20Madison%20and%20N.%202nd%20Aves.%20and%20River%20Rd.%20Highland%20Park&categories=WLM%202013%20United%20States%20unreviewed&lat=40.501389&lon=-74.438056) that says "Campaign "wlm-us" has not been enabled."

I understand that the contest is over; I don't care about that. I just want to contribute my photos to the Commons. But if I were to just go to Wikimedia Commons homepage & upload a photo from there, it wouldn't be linked to the National Register of Historic Places. For example, the photo I uploaded during the contest (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fairmount_United_Methodist_Church.JPG) has a banner with a National Park Service icon that reads "This is an image of a place or building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States. Its reference number is 96001470."

Also, are there any plans to update the map so we can see which pins have turned from red to green?

@Gould363: I have turned the campaign back on, so the upload tool should work now. As for the map, it updates gradually (I'm not exactly sure how) so it could conceivably take a few months. —Mono 18:38, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Yes you are allowed to upload any amount of images you wish to. Just make sure they're original images you own and they do not violate the Freedom Of Panorama rules. 2) Is it allowed to cancel a photo after posting it & replace it by another one?

It is absolutely posible to replace an image with a new one. Just go to the file, and scroll to the lower side of the page, you should see "upload new file" or something of the sort. Click on that and you'll be able to upload a new file which will replace the file. If you are asking about the upload, in the upload wizard window the third step of the upload) you can choose and manually edit categories for your file. A long comment from a disappointed new contributor!

Wikimedia does an amazing job, but my first participation makes me really disappointed.

You advertise on the homepage of wikipedia, to millions of users, asking them to help wikimonument.

I decide to help, in Switzerland.

1/ The list of monument is highly unpractical. Instead of being able to print a map of the village I will visit annotated with the missing monuments, I have to copy and past one by one the GPS coordinates of the building.

2/ The status is absolutely not uptodate. See e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki4Alps/Hinterrhein

Some monuments have a photo, but their "coverage" is still "no image". Hence I cannot sort the column by "coverage" to know which photo to take.

Finding out which monument to photograph takes hence a lot of time.

3/ I take 2 pictures and upload them via the "upload" button https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wlm-ch&id=3300&description=Gemeindehaus+%28altes+Schulhaus%29 First time it does not work. Second time it works. But where is the picture? I don't know.

I check the list https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki4Alps/Hinterrhein and the pictures I've just uploaded do not appear.

That's strange! I've just updated them from the list using the "upload" button??

Then he says: write [filename] for the picture file but it does not work as one must not put [] -- even he did not know that! Then the picture appears. I say "but i must manually change the coverage status"! Again, I need to edit the page, finding out myself the appropriate code ("2" for "Less or equal to 30 images").

5/ I wonder: where is the photo actually used ? not on https://rm.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spleia not here https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spl%C3%BCgen_GR but here https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Kulturg%C3%BCter_in_Spl%C3%BCgen

Well, what I discover is that wikimedia *already has the pictures of the two monuments I've photographed!* (3300 and 3297), and they're one year old. WHY DID I BOTHER HELPING WIKIMEDIA IF PICTURES ALREADY EXISTED???

I've lost time listing pictures to photograph, photographing them, finding out by miracle how to upload them and keep the list uptodate -- all this for nothing.

I find this extremely disappointing. I hope you realize that the process must work in a much simpler, and efficient way if you hope to win users.

Because of your very visible advertisement on the front page of Wikipedia you engage the broad public, which makes it even more crucial to have a good workflow.

I hope you'll take the necessary steps to improve this.

The files are TIFF images, which I've seen used here before, anywhere from 9 - 12 MB in size.

I get the api-error-unknownerror when I upload pictures. Those pictures are JPG files, file size around 4,5 MB taken by myself with my Olympus Camera. The file upload properly in the first step. I tried to upload files one by one. I tried a different file after the first failure. I granted the license in the second step without altering my username (my real name contains umlauts and I was not sure whether this might cause trouble). I was sent to the third upload page with the description fields. There was no error so far.

I added the address data as written in the list of monuments for my city. In the first try, I left the category blank. In the second try I added a general category "Wohnhaus" as suggested. I added the name of the city. I did not add the district of the city because it contains umlauts.

I clicked the finishing button and got an error page with a light grey box. In the center of the box stood the Filename and in a separate line <api-error-unknownerror>. No other text there. On the right , there was a red button with an exclamation mark. In the upper right corner, there was a red asterisk mentioning that "this" was a required field. No fields were shown nor marked. On the left side inside the box there was a thumbnail of my image with another border around it.

In this form, there is no function for adding screenshots. This is why I describe the error page so thoroughly. My browser is Firefox 32.0.1/current on Mac OS X 10.9.4. I guess, there is either a hidden field on the description page or on of the three fields filled by me was not accepted. However, there is no evidence for the user as of what went wrong.

PROBLEM SOLVED:

The reason for this error is the prefilled file name field on the description page (first field). The hint says that this field must not be empty. Leaving it unaltered is a natural choice. However, the default name which is the files local name does not meet the requirements. I dont know in which regard, because the file name extension is stripped of which is the single requirement explicitly mentioned when clicking the question mark. But changing the default name to something different did the trick for me.

I believe the file name field should not be prefilled. This would prevent this nasty barrier in participation. Second, the error page should be fixed, explaining what exactly went wrong. Third, the try again button on the error page should provide the option to go back one edit step to change parameters. Because uploading takes such extended times in the broadband developing state of germany, it is plain inacceptable to upload the same file over and over again only to test which field was the culprit.

Entering existing photos from my account

Hi I would like to know whether it's possible to enter a photo into the monuments contest that I've already added to an article on Wikipedia. First of all I'm not sure whether this is allowed and if it is I would like to know how to do this? I'm an absolute newbie so I'm a bit stuck and can't seem to make it work. Unable to upload pictures for certain monuments

My best photo didn't upload

The uploader first indicated it successfully received two photos of Mill Rift Hall (PA), and I put in descriptors and such. But then it said there was an error with the second one, which is the really nicest of the two. I retried several times, to no avail. Then I "continued anyway," and it showed only one photo. I went back to try the 2nd photo again, and after it loaded, it said again the file had failed because there was already a file with that content. I'm confused. Is my photo in or not?

Upload issue

Hello Wikimedia Helpdesk. I uploaded some photographs of Monuments for the competition. The files were uploaded successfully but some files could not be verified at the end and returned error. But my all of my photographs are showing in the uploaded section. How can I check that my photographs are Placed in the right section and my name and my image count as a participator. Thanks. ¿Qué hago si no me sale el espacio donde especificar categoría del concurso?

Nombre de monumentos

Hola: he recibido un aviso, o notificación, sobre el nombre dado a ciertas fotos que he subido con la categoría de "Monumento-Fortaleza" y me dice que aquí no se usa esa descripción, en cambio yo la he copiado de la lista de monumentos de BIC y viene así. Me dice que lo rectifique y no sé cómo hacerlo. Gracias AdriPozuelo
