Button to check license
I just wanted to check the license of File:Abilene Police Task Force (48695581313).jpg but couldn't find the button. Is that tool no more aviable? Or do I need to do in the code?--Sanandros (talk) 10:25, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Sanandros: I think that's because you use User:Rillke/LicenseReview.js, which is no longer maintained. The new script is User:Majora/LicenseReview.js. Ahmadtalk 14:01, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Something weird about motd template
On File:198 days in Hong Kong (香港延時攝影 Hong Kong Time Lapse).webm I see the English caption only, but on File:Washlets (high-tech toilets) in Japan (video).webm I can see Czech, English and Polish. Why does the former show only the English?--Roy17 (talk) 04:03, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

RTRC link on Special:Contributions
I want the link on Special:Contributions to be changed to "Patrol ALL the things!", in which "Dvaderv2" would be replaced with {{SUBPAGENAME}}. This can probably be achieved in common.js.. how? Innerhtml something.. how do I get the username? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 19:52, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Future changes
There will be a new schema for XML dumps. Scripts and apps that use them will need to be updated. If they are not updated they will no longer work. [1]
The
{{REVISIONID}}
magic word will no longer work in the content namespaces. This is for performance reasons. When you preview a page it returns""
(empty string). When you read a page it returns"-"
(dash). In the future this will also affect other namespaces. The next ones are file and category namespaces. [2]

I tried to delete file:Negros Oriental State University.jpg per Commons:Deletion requests/Files of MarionPaulBaylado and got error message "Error deleting file: An unknown error occurred in storage backend "local-multiwrite"." The file should be deleted. Taivo (talk) 20:21, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- 2013, looks like the filehistory bug. The null entry in the filehistory must break the standard delete process. This should be added on Phabricator, Phab:T239213. --Fæ (talk) 20:26, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- Added to T239213 as an example failure. --Fæ (talk) 14:34, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi there! Is here anybody who could possibly help me to create a template for NZ Heritage buildings please? Similar to Canadian (see the link above). An example of an item in the NZ Heritage database is here. Best regards, --Podzemnik (talk) 02:35, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Podzemnik: Done. See example at File:Mission House at Kerikeri.jpg. But you should find the top level category of the buildings and replace "Category:Heritage Sites in New Zealand" with it at Template:Heritage Sites in New Zealand/en and any translation thereof. If there's none, then just create Category:Heritage Sites in New Zealand. – Ammarpad (talk) 06:25, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Ammarpad: This is just fantastic, thank you so much for this! --Podzemnik (talk) 07:12, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Google search button
The useful button helping to run Google search in order to indentify copyvios disappeared a few days ago. It was located among edit, watch etc. buttons in file namespace. ~Cybularny Speak? 11:53, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Cybularny: it seems someone merged google and tineye gadgets. @~riley: might be able to explain.
- honestly i prefer separate ones coz i dont use tineye.--Roy17 (talk) 14:08, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
- My logged-in page UI (Monobook) is showing separate buttons for both services, as it ever did. However, I had recently to re-tick the checkbox for these gadgets in my preferences, for it has been somehow disabled. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 14:37, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, it seems I had the same, now it should be OK. ~Cybularny Speak? 19:06, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
- As Tuválkin said, it has changed following a consensus in the proposals village pump. The new gadget is MediaWiki:Gadget-GoogleImagesTineyeMobile.js, but users need to re-enable it through their preferences. Ahmadtalk 19:28, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
- Commenting as I was pinged.. Yes, changed following consensus to merge. MediaWiki:Gadget-GoogleImagesTineyeMobile.js is the new gadget for mobile, MediaWiki:Gadget-GoogleImagesTineye.js is the merged gadget for desktop. The Google gadget was redirected and merged into the Tineye gadget. If you did not use the Tineye gadget before, you need to check that button now. ~riley (talk) 20:21, 13 December 2019 (UTC)
User unfriendly user interface suddenly became the default
![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1e/Automatically_collapsed_user_talk_page_%2804_D._12_M._2019_A.%29.png/220px-Automatically_collapsed_user_talk_page_%2804_D._12_M._2019_A.%29.png)
As of a few minutes ago all user talk pages I load on Wikimedia Commons shows this interface. Prior to this the interface would only load like this if I was on "User:Example" and then clicked on "Discussion", but now it always loads by default. Is there a way that I can use the "wiki page" user interface back as the default? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:32, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
- Donald Trung, what did exactly change/ how did it look like before/ how did the user friendly interface look like? (I try to avoid mobile browsing at all because adds risk for the phone to be compromised -- and many phones stores important secrets these days.) Also note that Microsoft ended support for Windows Phones. Using such a device will be unfortunately increasingly insecure. (Personally, I am also concerned by the short times of support for mobile devices and the resulting pollution.) -- Rillke(q?) 21:46, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Rillke: , just an expandable list of items / subjects, you could click on this link 🔗 to see this page, now imagine that but then all title headers were collapsed by default, if you clicked on the "pencil" or "pen" it would show you the normal editing interface. I understand avoiding the mobile environment, it's often user unfriendly. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 22:00, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Problems
- The Linter extension helps you find technical errors in articles. It did not show new changes last week. This was because of an API problem. It is now working again. [5]
- Special:Watchlist can show the wrong information again. It does not always show which edits are read and which are unread. This is because of a database problem. The developers are working on solving the problem. [6]
Changes later this week
- You can get email notifications. You can get them immediately, a summary every day or a summary once every week. If you choose a summary you can soon choose not to get notifications you have already marked as read on the wiki. [7]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 17 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 18 December. It will be on all wikis from 19 December (calendar).

Help needed with migrating some infobox field names to translatewiki
There is bunch of infobox field names which I would like to move from I18n pages on Commons to translatewiki site. Can someone help me with that? Some that come to mind are:
- "Camera location" and "Object location" from Module:I18n/coordinates
- Most {{Institution}} template field names at Module:I18n/institution
- Bunch of {{Artwork}} template field names at Module:I18n/artwork
Anybody knows how to do it? --Jarekt (talk) 04:45, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

language-pt
{{Language}} – портуґальська
→ португальська
. І don't know to change this.--Чорний Кіт (talk) 01:21, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- What do you want to do? – Ammarpad (talk) 07:36, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- @Ammarpad: I'm guessing they are saying that the display for "Portuguese" in their language, Ukrainian, is incorrect. {{Language|pt|uk}} should display португальська when it displays португальська instead. Both of which Google Translate to Portuguese so I don't know if they are correct or not but that is what they are saying. I have no idea how to fix that, provided it is actually incorrect, since the base language displays are part of the system itself. So maybe translatewiki? --Majora (talk) 22:12, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks Majora. That makes things clear. The string is not incorrect. {{Language|pt|uk}} is correctly displaying португальська. To display what he wants, he has to use Brazilian dialect code {{Language|pt-br|uk}} which displays Brazilian Portuguese, though with additional parenthetical qualifier. – Ammarpad (talk) 23:58, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- I don't claim to know Ukrainian, Ammarpad, but wouldn't it stand to reason that the prefix of both pt and pt-br be the same? (Бразилія) translates to (Brazil), per Google Translate, so the starting part of both of those should be Portuguese. Why does one use ґ while the other uses г? If they are the same word it would stand to reason that they should be the same letters. The fact that pt-br shows it one way while pt shows it the other is rather odd when the prefix, pt, is the same either way. --Majora (talk) 01:25, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
