UploadWizard not working
Hello, I haven't been abled to use the UploadWizard on Firefox 4X for weeks. On the same computer, Internet Explorer works fine. Is there any pending issue? --NaBUru38 (talk) 20:16, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Wizard blocking the upload of photos
I have been having the problem of after putting in all the information for a picture the Wizard blocks the upload of the image. It highlights the title box in red and says
"This looks like a file you obtained from another image host. Please make the title more meaningful. Also, double check that you have the rights to publish it on this site."
At this point the upload button disappears and even if you change the title it will not reappear making it impossible to upload the pictures. This is extremely frustrating, especially with big uploads. I have found the wizard seems to do this whenever you end the name of your file with a date. A for sure way to get it is if you end your file name with 2015/12/03 or something like that. Please fix this so it stops blocking uploads, or at least make it so you can correct the title and then proceed to upload. as it is now. You spend half an hour preparing an upload and then this filter comes in and makes you start all over again from the beginning. (Sunfishtommy (talk) 21:55, 3 December 2015 (UTC))
Replacing images of Wikisource projects.
I am replacing hundreds of poorly processed images of the Popular Science Monthly volumes. These were uploaded by me, but my image cleanup & contrasting processes greatly improved since the originals were prepared. My problem is that I must work from Wikisource which makes the process of uploading very long as I have to take the following steps:
- Click on the image of the page to be replaced, which leads me to the local image page.
- Click on the 'View on Wikimedia Commons' link.
- Scroll down and click on 'Upload a new version of this file' where I finally access the upload page.
There must be a shorter/direct way to access the image replacement page. Can the 'Upload Wizard' be used for image replacement in batch mode?

Radio
I would like to add some info to Wiki as I was the UK's 1st female full time radio presenter. I started in Galaxy Radio in 1992 broadcasting a daily 4 hour show at this time there were only 1 or 2 women doing 1 show a week like Annie Nightingale and Ranking Miss P. Jackie Brambles followed after me. I went onto become Head of Specialist Programs and was the first legal station to play drum & bass. My show went on to include live weekly mixes from Roni Size & The Full Cycle crew who's live band Reprezent won The Mercury Award in 1996. I also co-hosted a show on BBC Radio called Euromix with Robert Elms for which I won a Sony Award. I also help set up the UKs 1st all female radio station Fem FM in 1992. These are just some of my achievements and I'd be so grateful for your help in uploading this information to Wikipedia. Thank you so much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.252.189.68 (talk • contribs) 00:46, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Question regarding picture of painting from 1967-1970 timeframe in U.S.
I have a photograph of a painting of a semi-truck being driven along Highway 1 in California near Los Angeles. The company is named on the side of the trailers, Transcon Lines, which went out of business in 1990. There is no copyright symbols on this photograph/painting, although the artist's name "J. Katalski" is on the right bottom corner of the painting. I have been unable to find the artist or any of his heirs via ancestry.com and other searches. I was trying to get this picture into the public domain so that former employees of Transcon and their heirs could see this picture. There is no further documentation. Former Transcon employees have said that copies of this painting were displayed at numerous locations within their operations in the 1967 to 1970 timeframe, within the United States. No people are portrayed in the picture. Should I upload this to Wikimedia Commons? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mackey77 (talk • contribs) 21:29, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
- That might be public domain per {{PD-US-no notice}}, but I am not 100% sure how that particular license works. There is a separate

Uploading photo
I want help with uploading a photo to en:Greg Germann's Wikipedia page.
I'm not sure how to handle adding an old newspaper article to references for a Wikipedia entry. The article has no author and is has no publication data, even though I have an approximate idea (October 1941). It is better than no citation at all, but it is far from complete and no way to get permission. I have the image of the article and text in a PDF. I tried uploading the file, but don't know how to put a reference to it in an article, or if it should not be referenced. I'll try here. File:Newpaper article about Logan Elm Poem.pdf Bobcoiltrb (talk) 02:04, 8 December 2015 (UTC)bob
- Unfortunately that information isn't enough to determine the copyright status of the image, and you won't be able to upload this file to commons. You might be able to upload it to the Wikipedia project you are creating the article on (COM:FAIRUSE). Someone has nominated the file for deletion here already. - If you click the button with a pencil icon (which has the tooltip text "Use custom date format"), you should be able to enter something like {{other date|circa|1850}} , which will be rendered as "circa 1850 " in the reader's selected language. Does that not work? —LX (talk, contribs) 18:36, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Question about uploading a picture
Hi! I am working on a wikipedia article on Convolutional Neural Networks. I found a picture on the web that I wish to use for the article (http://cs231n.github.io/assets/cnn/cnn.jpeg). I contacted the picture's author (his name is Andrej Karpaty, karpathy@cs.stanford.edu) via e-mail and obtained his explicit permission to use it for the article. I uploaded the file to Commons and indicated that in the description. However, the file was deleted as violating copyright by a wiki bot. Could you help me with resolving this issue? Thank you for your time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aphex34 (talk • contribs)
- To be on Commons, files must be allowed to be used by anyone (see COM:SCOPE). If you only have permission to use the file on Wikipedia, you should upload it there. If you want to try to get the required permission to upload the file here, see COM:OTRS. BMacZero (talk) 21:37, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

- ESPC 2015 has ended, so this question isn't that much relevant anymore. But as I can see you managed to successfully upload some images.
- As you saw, then while uploading files to Commons there is a line that asks how you want the authors name to be marked down. If yo want the current information to be changed, then you can do it with edit button above the image page. Editing page looks like this.
- BTW: I just today had jury meeting we selected the best images from Italy. Lot of countries still remain. I'm not sure yet when exactly will we announce the results. Kruusamägi (talk) 22:00, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Issues with large JPEG files / how about a progress bar?
It seems that uploads of large JPEG files (not that large in image size, but in file size, e.g. File:Frasnacht Kratzern 2015.jpg: a JPEG of 5,424 × 3,616 pixels with 27.02 MB) have a tendency to get stuck in the Upload Wizard and sometimes need more than one attempt at uploading. Upload / Copyright Issues
Folks,
I'm putting together my first wiki page and it looks like I need some help understanding how to correctly upload some images I want to use on the page.
The page is of an artist, my grandfather, who died in 1969. The images I wish to upload include one portrait of him, and 7 - 10 images of his art work. All the images are of art work owned by either myself of other members of my family. The images are all of low resolution.
I uploaded several images and used "own work" for the copyright designation, which I now see is obviously incorrect. I presume I should be uploading and designating as "fair use." Is this correct? Please give me some guidance as to the correct copyright designation and as to the correct location I should upload to.
Thanks for your help.
J. Joy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jackxjoy (talk • contribs) 01:03, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- If you did not create the original photos or paintings entirely yourself, then they are not your own work, you are not the author, and you are probably not the copyright holder.
- The author of a photograph or painting is the photographer or painter. The author (rather than the subject) is normally also the copyright holder, unless it is a work made for hire (in which case the copyright holder is specified by the written contract) or the copyright has expired (in which case it has not copyright). If the original copyright holder has passed away, the heirs are the copyright holders until it expires. Copyright is an immaterial right and has nothing to do with ownership of any physical copies or originals.
- Fair use content is not permitted on Commons. Non-free fair use content may only be uploaded locally to some projects (such as English Wikipedia) under some specific circumstances. For the English Wikipedia's guidelines, see en:Wikipedia:Non-free content. —LX (talk, contribs) 16:21, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello,
I am new to Wikimedia Commons, and would appreciate advice selecting the correct copyright tag for a photograph that I would like to upload to the Commons then add to an existing Wikipedia page. The photograph was provided by the photographer, for this purpose, at my request. In the file properties, the photographer has designated the copyright status as "Free License / Open License". After filling in the fields attributing the photo source and photographer, I am not sure which Creative Commons license category and/or copyright tag to select.
Thank you, in advance, for your help! Laatu (talk) 16:16, 19 December 2015 (UTC)
- The photographer needs to specify the exact terms under which he or she would like to release the photo. You cannot make that selection on their behalf. The permission to publish the photo under the license of their choosing also needs to be sent in via e-mail. See Commons:OTRS for details. —LX (talk, contribs) 17:40, 19 December 2015 (UTC)

Upload / license selection assistance, please
Hello,
I am new to Wikimedia Commons, and would appreciate advice selecting the correct copyright tag for a photograph that I would like to upload to the Commons then add to an existing Wikipedia page. The photograph is of US origin. At my request, the photograph (jpeg file) was provided by the photographer for this purpose. In the file properties, the photographer has designated the copyright status as "Free License / Open License". During upload, after filling in the fields attributing the photo source and photographer, I am not sure which Creative Commons license category and/or copyright tag to select. Which license category applies?
Thank you, in advance, for your help! Laatu (talk) 13:00, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
- Again, since this is basically the same question I answered immediately above: The photographer needs to specify the exact terms under which he or she would like to release the photo. You cannot make that selection on their behalf. The permission to publish the photo under the license of their choosing also needs to be sent in via e-mail. - For how long? I've uploaded hundreds photos over the last 3-4 years (the last one in September)--Ezzex (talk) 23:22, 17 December 2015 (UTC)
- You mean how long has it been since the Upload Wizard was introduced? It was made the default upload tool in May 2011. Stalled upload processes have been reported since at least 2010. —LX (talk, contribs) 06:05, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- @LX: Come on, you're exaggerating. UploadWizard is being used to upload around 30% of the new files at Commons (and that's counting uploads from semiautomated tools like Flickr transfers or GWToolset). It can't be that bad. (I concede that the old upload tool is probably more reliable, since it's a lot simpler.)
- @Ezzex: I sympathise, but I can't really help without you giving me any more details. It works for me :) Can you elaborate what exactly you're trying to do (what kind of files? what file name? can you upload one of them somewhere else for me to test with, like on Phabricator?), what exactly happens (does the page look visibly broken? or just not responding to your clicks? if possible, can you tell if it's using your CPU or uploading data over the network?), and what browser you're experiencing this with (can you get a log from its error console?). We have a How to report a bug page with some more tips. Matma Rex (talk) 19:37, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- Like I said: not always broken for everyone, but pretty much always broken for a significant number of people. Look at Special:PrefixIndex/Commons:Upload Wizard feedback/Archive from 2011/05 and later. I don't know where you got the 30% figure, but it really doesn't say anything at all about how many uploads are unsuccessful. The negative feedback is a hint, but I'm sure a lot of people just give up and leave. —LX (talk, contribs) 23:07, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- I've tries once more, but it will still not work. I have never had any problems with this before. What is CPU? I use Firefox--Ezzex (talk) 20:20, 20 December 2015 (UTC)
- @Ezzex: Suggestion: Back in August, I encountered a similar problem uploading image files to Commons through the old Upload form using Mozilla Firefox web browser. Like you, I had uploaded dozens of image files to Commons, over the years, using Firefox. After failed attempts over several days in August, I then tried uploading the image file using Google Chrome web browser, and was successful. So now, when uploading an image to Commons, I always use Google Chrome. Woodlot (talk) 12:05, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

row "Batería de Atalayón" (RI-51-0009995), I clicked to add a photo at the right side icon:
But it is not shown in the page. Why?
Notice that I have no idea why I get part in English part in Spanish. I'm happy on both languages. When clicking on upload in the Spanish wiki page, I get all the prompts in English. maybe that is the problem? :-? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cerobin (talk • contribs) 14:49, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for your contribution! Uploading an image doesn't automatically cause it to be added to any pages. You need to edit the page and add it yourself. —LX (talk, contribs) 16:39, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Then the instructions are wrong. The page provides a link to upload photos for the monuments on the page, and that I did. I will not edit the page myself.
Question: Why, the page being in the Spanish wiki, in Spanish, am I getting the upload link and _this_ help page in English? This being English, it is impossible for me to get help from the people maintaining that page in Spanish. They will never know I submitted a photo, either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cerobin (talk • contribs) 15:17, 28 December 2015 (UTC)
- Improving the instructions on es:Anexo:Bienes de interés cultural de la Región de Murcia is a matter for Spanish Wikipedia. Right now you're at a different but related project called Wikimedia Commons. We host free media (photos, video, audio etc.) that can be used on all the different language editions of Wikipedia and all other Wikimedia projects (plus the rest of the world).
- Commons is a multilingual project. You can change the language of the user interface in your preferences or by using the language selection link at the top of the page. The folks over at Spanish Wikipedia may also want to append
&uselang=es
to the links for the upload form, which will set Spanish as the language of choice. If you want Spanish-language assistance here on Commons, Commons:Café is probably your best bet, but when it comes to feedback on es:Anexo:Bienes de interés cultural de la Región de Murcia, you should probably head over to es:Anexo Discusión:Bienes de interés cultural de la Región de Murcia or es:Wikipedia:Café back at Spanish Wikipedia.
