Upload wizard - the NEXT button is missing

Normally when I use the upload wizard, after the first file is uploaded, I get a choice of adding more files or Next (which goes to the screen that asks about the licensing and then title/description/location etc). Now I get two choices, to add more files or upload from Flickr (which I have never seen before) but no NEXT button. There is no way to provide the information on the uploaded file and complete the uploading. What has happened to the NEXT button? The Upload Wizard is pretty much in a perpetual state of brokenness. It isn't broken for everyone all the time, but I don't recall a time since it was introduced that we went more than a few days without people reporting enigmatic problems with indefinitely spinning wheels, unhelpful error messages, or simply no way to move forward. Testing before deploying changes seems to be unheard of. Have you tried Commons:Upload? It tends to be much more reliable. —LX (talk, contribs) 14:40, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. I am uploading using Commons:Upload, but it is very difficult considering that I have 800 photos now, and this is the first time since 2010 that I experience this failure of Upload Wizzard; in short, it takes me hours to manually fill up the Commons Upload, resulting to very few photos I now upload, unlike in super fast Upload Wizard, please help me, thanks--Judgefloro (talk) 15:04, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
You may build your own upload link and this way you'll just have to insert information that differ from one file to the next. Or try something like Commons:VicuñaUploader. -- Rillke(q?) 15:26, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your time; I have uploaded only 50 photos for these 2 hours unlike Upload Wizard where I upload about 200 photos in just the same hour; may I ask if by some hours from now, like tomorrow, will Upload Wizzard work for me? Thank a lot; my Globe Tattoo now gives 10 Mbps Upload speed and 1.o Mbps download, unlike before, when I have none; hence, this link debug works fast and loads so fast; it works now, Like this a great help from you to me and to all editors who likewise may have this problem; note also that without this debug link, as of this time the Upload Wizard does not work yet; best regards--Judgefloro (talk) 16:30, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Permission to use image of Janet Nichols Lynch

Hi Wiki folks,

I want to upload a photograph of me in the info box of the article Janet Nichols Lynch. The Visalia-Times Delta owns the rights. Editor Melinda Morales at the Visalia Times-Delta emailed Wiki on January 23, 2015 to give permission to use the image as long as Visalia Times-Delta was credited in the caption. The photographer Johanna Coyne also emailed Wiki and gave her permission on January 23, 2015. Wiki deleted the photo and won't let me upload it again. What can I do? The file was originally called File:Janet Nichols Lynch.jpg (Janet Nichols Lynch, 2009.)

Hi, Thanks for your reply, but I don't understand it. By "the message" do you mean the email from Visalia Times-Delta that gives permission to use the photo? Wiki has deleted the photo, and won't let me upload it again.

Susanna Roxman

Hi,

I'm having some problems adding a second photo to the article "Susanna Roxman", which I wrote a few years ago. Basically, I must say that I don't quite understand why it has to be so difficult to add pictures to the Wikipedia, and so easy to add texts! I got some odd response today to the effect that this kind of file (whatever that means) cannot be uploaded. I don't see why, because, technically, it's a similar picture to the one I added earlier. It isn't possible to answer such comments directly. I have spent literally many hours trying to add the second photo. Please help. You may use this email address:

This post was your first edit here on Wikimedia Commons. It will obviously be very hard for anyone to help if you don't mention who it was that responded to what or where that discussion took place, especially if you don't provide any direct quotes. It looks like you successfully uploaded File:Susanna Roxman.Kensington Gdns.JPG after posting the question above, though. —LX (talk, contribs) 19:31, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Somebody helped me to upload and add that second picture to the article "Susanna Roxman". I wasn't able to, myself. Perhaps I should add that I know lots of people who have added articles to the Wikipedia, but are unable to add pics. I mean I'm not the only one to find this difficult and horribly complicated. No need to apologise – it's really just that providing details is in your own best interest. I just noticed that your question went unanswered for a long time, and thought you deserved to know why that might be. There isn't much ordinary users like myself can do to improve the upload process itself, but if you describe what was difficult, we can at least try to improve the help pages. First time uploading photos

Looking at your log, I can see that you have not uploaded any files on this project. As you can see in the discussion above, the default interface for uploading files to Commons, the Upload Wizard, is broken, so this is probably the reason for the difficulties you experienced. You should not attempt to recreate previously deleted content yourself. Doing so may result in your account being blocked. You can ask for the file to be restored at Commons:Undeletion requests. Hola, Lucgarciasala. Si usted mismo sacó la foto, el primer paso es subirla al asistente de subidas. Después, en el artículo de Wikipedia, añada el código Nombre de la foto.jpg a la línea parecida a |foto = . Por ejemplo:
|foto = Nombre de la foto.jpg
Eso es todo. Si necesita más ayuda, por favor edite esta página de nuevo.

Can I upload one of these images to wikimedia?

I'd like to upload an image to wikimedia to be able to add to this wikipedia article (Aibidil Gaoidheilge agus Caiticiosma) but I'm not sure what I'm allowed to upload. I've numbered the following images to make this blurb easier to read. Image 1, used here, is protected with this (a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License, BY-NC-SA), which according to Creative Commons license means that it "cannot be used" in Wikipedia. The same website (tcd.ie) also has image 2, used here, and image 3, used here. These two images don't appear to have any licence attached to them. I could probably use image 4, used here, but it's poor quality. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks! Maestroso simplo (talk) 02:58, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

NC isn't allowed here, so far it's simple. You can upload low-resolution images on the English Wikipedia for "fair use" in one or two Wikipedia articles depending on the image. A standard example is a copyrighted logo (NC, ND, or no permission to use it elsewhere) for a company on an article about this company. An ancient low-resolution photo of a long dead person on an article about this person should be also okay, but creating a "fair use" rationale is hard work, check out an example recently discussed on the help desk. –Be..anyone (talk) 07:08, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Uploading Pictures

I am working on an article for Jesse Cutler at en:User:Surfsupjoe125/sandbox. All pictures I am attempting to upload were supplied by Jesse Cutler and given to me from Jesse Cutler. He has no restrictions on where th pics are posted and allows open use. I try to upload the picture again but gt an error stating it was already loaded and deleted. I need some help with this please

The Alpha Delta Phi-Philippines, Inc. uploaded our National Official Coat of Arms and Official National Seal, I am confused why it failed. For all your uploads, you have asserted that you personally created those images entirely yourself and that you personally hold the copyright to them. Unfortunately, experience shows that this type of image is often uploaded by people who didn't create them and don't have the rights to them, even though they say so. Since anybody can register an account on Commons under any name, additional verification via e-mail is required for this type of work. Help with upload

I'm afraid permission to upload is not sufficient. You will need the photographer's permission to publish the photos under a free license, allowing anybody to use the photos with or without modifications and for any purpose, including commercial purposes. Upload "Grace Kelly in Sun (2013)"

Who can help me? The file: GILL, James, 591 Grace Kelly in Sun (2013).jpg has been deleted from Wikimedia. Perhaps I didn'd select the correct licence, but license was fully given by www.premium-modern-art.com who is the owner of all rights. A new upload of this file does not work. The response here is going to be the same as what you got at User talk:Jcb#Upload GILL, James: "Grace Kelly in Sun (2013)". If you followed the instructions and the permission that you have sent in meets our requirements, the file will be restored without any further action needed on your behalf. The processing time for permissions in English is currently about 52 days; permission statements in other languages may take even longer. If the permission is not sufficient, the volunteer processing it will reply with information on what else is needed. Trouble uploading more than one image

I have a large amount of free images from the same PLOS ONE paper, but my stupid computer won't allow me to select more than one, and clicking the "Add More Files" link does absolutely nothing. I am hesitant to say that there is a bug, but I've tried to do it at different times over the day with no change. Is there anything I can do? IJReid (talk) 02:35, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

You might try one of the desktop uploading applications. If you don't know which, I'd take VicuñaUploader. Otherwise just construct one upload link. This will allow only one file per form submission but you can quickly open multiple tabs, select files and upload them. If you want the UploadWizard developers being able to to reproduce the issue, you'll have to tell us which browser and which browser version you are using. -- Rillke(q?) 02:56, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Gelöschte Dateien können wiederhergestellt werden. Die Angabe des richtigen Urhebers wird aber nicht reichen, wenn die Bilder bereits andernorts veröffentlicht wurden. Hi all,

I have been working on an article about Jesse Cutler. It is in my sandbox, en:User:Surfsupjoe125/sandbox. I have uploaded files using Commons but my pict have been deleted. These pics have ben given to me by Jesse Cutler himself. If I attempt to reload, I get error message stating pic was previously loaded and deleted. Once I upload the files I am also having a difficult time trying to find them again to even attempt to get them reloaded.

Any suggestions, assistance, guidance would be greatly appreciated. It is in the queue for review but have a long wait since there are about 1400 in front of mine.

I’m not well acquainted with the workings of the servers, but my first guess would be that someone at tkWP changed a link over there, making it direct to the Upload Wizard here instead of a local function. Have you asked at the Turkmen help desk or forum? Or it might have been something done at Meta, which is has to do with inter-wiki dealings; perhaps you could see if anyone at meta:Wikimedia_Forum knows what happened. Hi Sir artur! As already mentioned, you can upload files with file descriptions in Turkmen here on Commons, and they will be available for use on Turkmen Wikipedia. The Turkmen Wikipedia project is not listed on meta:Non-free content as having a Exemption Doctrine Policy (like the English Wikipedia's non-free content criteria). That means there is no type of content that can be locally uploaded to Turkmen Wikipedia that isn't also eligible for uploading to Commons, where they can be used by all Wikimedia projects.
Many projects in that situation have chosen to disable local uploads. This is an active (and sensible) choice, not a mistake to be "corrected". There is really no reason for small projects that aren't allowed to host non-free content and that don't necessarily have the ability to ensure that uploaded files are free and legal to have local uploads enabled. Couldn't find an answer or solution for this, sorry...

I've uploaded a file wrongfully (violates http://www.hermitagemuseum.org/wps/portal/hermitage/about/image_usage_policy?lng=en), but I can't seem to delete (undo) it.

Uploading the file resulted in the current https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Christina_Robertson_-_Children_with_Parrot,_1850.jpg default images.

If possible, would someone please remove the current https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d1/Christina_Robertson_-_Children_with_Parrot%2C_1850.jpg (and its smaller counterparts), and revert to the previous https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Christina_Robertson_-_Children_with_Parrot,_1850.jpg default images, i.e., undo my upload.

In theory you can click on revert on File:Christina_Robertson_-_Children_with_Parrot,_1850.jpg to go back to the older version uploaded by User:Wmpearl. In practice please don't do that, the public domain permission is also valid for your upload, no matter what the museum says. File:Pierre-Elie_de_Pibrac,_photographe_plasticien.jpg can be undeleted when you pick the OTRS procedure to show "out of band" (e-mail or similar) that you are the copyright holder Gilles Déjraouane, who now releases his image or photo under a free license (or puts it in the public domain, but then the © would be slightly misleading.) I'm afraid permission to upload is not sufficient. What is needed is permission from the legitimate copyright holder to publish the content under a free license (a copyright license that allows anyone to use, modify and distribute the content for any purpose, including commercial purposes). As you were told last time, please see Commons:OTRS for instructions on how to obtain and send in an appropriate permission statement. What is '<api-error-unknownerror>' ?

I tried three times to upload (three different versions of the same) 4 photos, and each time - after filling out descriptions etc. - I get a spurious '<api-error-unknownerror>' together with a '* = This field is required' in four copies, one for each photo.

Looks like you've found your way to Phabricator to report the bug. Unfortunately, the Upload Wizard (the default interface for uploading files to Commons) is pretty much in a perpetual state of brokenness. It isn't broken for everyone all the time, but I don't recall a time since it was introduced that we went more than a few days without people reporting enigmatic problems with indefinitely spinning wheels, unhelpful error messages, or simply no way to move forward. You've been here long enough that you might remember Commons:Upload, the old upload interface, which is still there. @Modiriart: Unfortunately, there are two problems with your uploads currently. If they are not resolved, the uploads will be deleted.
  1. We have no use for them if we do not have a page (such as an article on Wikipedia) to put them on. If you want to have an article on Wikipedia, first please review its requirements for articles.
  2. Because the artworks you've uploaded appear at http://www.modiriartgallery.com/, we would need additional information to verify that you are authorized to upload them. Please review this page and send an e-mail according to the instructions. It needs to come from the official contact address or another address ending in @modiriartgallery.com

Uploading NASA images

Can someone describe how to upload images released by NASA to the public. I saw that they can be uploaded from NASA Flickr page, but when I try to copy URL a message pops up telling me that it is under licence. I'm editing spaceflight articles on Serbian wikipedia, and I would like to be able to upload some of those NASA images on my own, rather than wait for someone to upload them. Not all images released by NASA are PD; see the caveats in the text of Template:PD-USGov-NASA. What does the Flickr page for the image say the license is? AnonMoos (talk) 13:17, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Prezados Há cerca de dois anos enviei arquivos de imagens de obras de Eliseu Visconti para a Wikimedia, arquivos estes que posteriormente foram retirados por um colaborador que alegou eu não deter os direitos autorais das referidas imagens. Este problema não mais existe pois, além de provar que, na qualidade de Presidente da Associação Cultural Eliseu Visconti, sou o detentor dos direitos autorais das imagens das obras de Eliseu Visconti, no dia 1 de janeiro de 2015 essa obras caíram em domínio público (70 anos de falecimento do artista). No entanto, ao tentar enviar alguns arquivos de imagens para a Wikimedia, o arquivo não é aceito por já ter sido retirado no passado pelo mencionado colaborador. There are no technical requirements on the number of edits or time since registration for uploading files to Commons, but is there any reason to believe that the flyer is in the public domain or that the copyright holder would be willing to agree to publication under a free license? —LX (talk, contribs) 17:11, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Uploading recorded files...Nepal

Hello, I am from Nepal. I just wanted to ask a question about uploading recorded files. I want to record poems, stories or articles written by nepalese authors and want to upload it in commons. However, what licenses are there regarding it? If the authors has already died will it just be okay to record their works and upload it? I don't know what copyright license works regarding it. I have raised this question among nepalese admins. in nepali wiki as well. Waiting for valuable answers.

According to the template {{PD-Nepal}}, it looks like Nepalese copyright typically expires 50 years after the death of the authors, so unless they died more than 50 years ago, you would need permission from the heirs to publish the recordings under a free license. —LX (talk, contribs) 17:02, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

If you wish to upload a freely licensed or public domain file, you should not do it at a Wikipedia project, but rather here on Wikimedia Commons (the site you're currently on), where it can be used on all the different language editions of Wikipedia as well as other Wikimedia projects. The "Upload file" link is in the menu to the left. If the content you wish to upload is not free, you should probably check with whichever Wikipedia project you have in mind whether they accept local uploads under a fair use rationale and whether the content you wish to upload would meet their policy requirements. —LX (talk, contribs) 16:52, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Now I have registered under the User name Tanechka72 and, to improve the above article, I need to upload an image of the person (Tigran Maytesian) which is a copyrighted image for which I have permission (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license and the GNU Free Documentation License, OTRS ticket number 2015020610023567).

Please let me know if I can upload the image of the person (Tigran Maytesian) using the above permission to Commons to further upload it to Wikipedia article Tigran Maytesian.

Multipage tiffs which are not

Hello. The Swiss National Library uploaded several tiffs and some of them have two pages now. For example: File:CH-NB - Hirslanden bei Zürich, (heute eingemeindet) - Collection Gugelmann - GS-GUGE-WÜEST-C-4.tif. It wasn't clear why that is happening. Recently I have the same problem too. I have scanned a picture and uploaded it and it looks like it would have also two pages: File:Norway - The land of the midnight sun.tif. When I check the original tiff it isn't a multipage tiff. Also when I download it again it is still not a multipage tiff! So It looks like a bug in Commons. What to do next? --Micha (talk) 13:54, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Help for uploading files

Hello! I uploaded 4 files (images for an article preparing for publication) — for example, a file1. But 1. I am concerned about the mark of possible copyright infringement «Possible copyvios» by bot User:SteinsplitterBot. In the description of the files, I have the author, source, and gave a direct link, wherein said their license CC-BY-3.0. And 2. it looks like I have not quite right categorys for images. User:SteinsplitterBot is an automated process using some rules to identify files which could be reviewed by humans. The rules are pretty simple, so the list of files is going to have a lot of false positives (files that are not copyright violations). The lists are frequently updated, and it looks like File:Volokolamsk pamyatnik vzryv 11 geroyam saperam 001.jpg is no longer on it. When you upload files from an external source and that site has licensing information on it, I would advise you to add {{licensereview}} to the file description pages. That way, a trusted user will verify that the license information is correct in case the site changes that information or disappears. As for the categories, category names are in English. Maybe something like Category:Monuments and memorials in Moscow Oblast and Category:Volokolamskoye Highway (Moscow Oblast) would be appropriate? —LX (talk, contribs) 17:30, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

I can not upload files

Good afternoon! For two years now upload files (formatted card svg). But the last few days can not do that. Get the message: The file might have been damaged or the wrong extension. That means that the file's content may not match its name (a PNG-format file with name ending in ".jpg" for example), or possibly an internal file structure problem. It's hard to know without looking at the file. AnonMoos (talk) 13:20, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

hi, i'm working for DOK.fest München and tried to upload a logo for the page to wiki commons. apparently i labeled the file incorrectly and it's not working because of copyright issues. can you delete the files and tell me how to label them properly. its the logo of the film festival.
