On November 22, 1830, around 10,000 men from the Zurich countryside (Zürich Landschaft) gathered on the hill of Zimiken in Uster. With the pamphlet known as the "Uster Memorial" ("Memorial von Uster"), they demanded a new constitution. The main request was an equal treatment of both urban and rural areas. This was the political turnaround needed to create the first liberal constitution of the canton of Zurich. |
