Hello, @Laurel Lodged: ! How is it different to the already existing Category:Greek Catholic churches in Hungary? Pasztilla (talk) 17:15, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not a lot. The "Greek Catholic Church" tree hierarchy is quite established, so I am reluctant to tear it down. In itself, it is almost the same thing as saying "Eastern Catholic", but not quite. Really, the term "Greek Catholic" just means that those churches use the Byzantine Rite in their liturgies. Since such churches have the most members of all Eastern Catholic churches, then the two are nearly identical. The main difference is that some Eastern Catholic churches use the Coptic, Western Syriac, Eastern Syriac, or Ethiopian Rites in their liturgies. By country, the differences are very little. For example in Ukraine, there are two Eastern Catholic churches - the Ruthenian and the Ukrainian. Admittedly, in the case of Hungary, I cannot find an EC church that is not Hungarian Greek Catholic; but potentially, the Ukrainian Church, for example, could establish a presence there for its diaspora. It already has an eparchy in Poland, so the possibility is not out of the question. In summary, I feel that there is no problem in having two parallel tree structures : one "by liturgy" and one "by sui iuris Church". Laurel Lodged (talk) 17:41, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answer. Indeed, in Hungary only Hungarian GC "operates". Given this is exact same, I could imagine one of them is a redirect, rather than flagging all categories of churches, priests, etc. to two parallel categories at the same time. A lot of efforts with no material benefit. Pasztilla (talk) 08:25, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see a benefit: some people like to navigate by country while others l8ke to navigate by denomination. Having parallel tree structures permits this to happen at a high level split in the trees. That's a good thing - to preserve well established structures. Also I found a diocese of a different church that included parts of Hungary - Eparchy of Mukačevo and Prešov.
