4+ different ways of navigations by quantity
[edit]@Joshbaumgartner, Verdy p, Triplec85, DanielPenfield, Shāntián Tàiláng, and Auntof6: Hello, at the moment there are four (or more?) ways of navigations by quantity:
# | Template | Code | Renders as | Sets the following categories | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | many individual ones, see: Category:By quantity navigational templates |
{{Flags by quantity}} |
|
— | |
{{Bricks by quantity}} |
| ||||
2 | {{By quantity}} | {{By quantity|flags}} |
— | ||
{{By quantity|bricks}} |
|||||
3 | {{Groups}} | {{Groups|flags|8}} |
Flags by quantity | 8 symbols | |
{{Groups|bricks|7}} |
No Navigation (!?) | Bricks by quantity | Groups of 7 | ||
4 | {{Qty group}} | {{qty group|8|flags}} |
No Navigation yet (could maybe be added via {{By quantity}}) | 8 symbols | Flags by quantity |
{{qty group|7|bricks}} |
No Navigation yet | — (!?) | Bricks by quantity |
- Instead of #1 (the many individual templates) i think we should focus the more generally ones following.
- IMHO #3 {{Groups}} is the most advanced system with Auto-categorisation, but combined with the nice layout of {{By quantity}} (It is a navigation-box and points "·" between:)

- I agree that {{Groups}} has some useful autocategorization and it is my preferred go-to. However, it does require that an entry be added to {{Groups/data}} for each topic (e.g. 'flags' or 'bricks') to work properly, so it isn't as easy to use if not just adding to an already-established topic. The template has a lot of different use cases accounted for, but that means there is a lot going on there, so further development can be a challenge (without breaking something). But certainly for topics it is already set up for, it can be pretty capable.
- That said, if there is interest in homologating these templates, and we can come up with a good checklist of features we would like to see, including optional ones, and what the final 'look' should be for displayed elements, I would be happy to build it, maybe using {{Groups}} as a basis, or a clean-sheet template as I'd like to have a lot of the functionality but simplify the execution, especially when it comes to making it easier for other editors to use and expand the thing.
