Deutsch: Das Wilhelm-Spiegel-Haus in der Fleethörn 26 und am Rathausplatz 3 in Kiel-Vorstadt wurde als Landeszentralbank 1949/50 vom Bauamt der Zentralbanken durch Dr. Ing. Grantz und Dipl. Ing. Ahne errichtet unter Mitarbeit von Friedrich R. Ostermeyer, Hamburg, für die Fassadengestaltung. 1969 erfolgte ein Anbau am Hinterhof. Das Gebäude ersetzte das im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstörte Reichsbankgebäude in der Fleethörn 29. Heute befinden sich dort das Kieler Standesamt und die Stadtkasse.
Der Name der Gebäude erinnert an den Stadtverordnetenvorsteher Wilhelm Spiegel (* 22. Juni 1876 in Gelsenkirchen; † 12. März 1933 in Kiel), ein SPD-Politiker, Rechtsanwalt und Notar. Seine Ermordung durch die Nationalsozialisten markierte die Machtübernahme der NSDAP in Kiel. Seit 1995 ist am Eingang des Hauses Fleethörn 26 eine Bronzetafel zum Gedenken an Spiegel: „Die Ratsversammlung ehrt sein Andenken und ruft alle Kielerinnen und Kieler auf, beharrlich gegen Unrecht und Rassismus einzutreten“.
English: The Wilhelm-Spiegel-Haus at Fleethörn 26 and at Rathausplatz 3 in the district of Kiel Vorstadt built in 1949/50 as state central bank in Kiel by the central bank building authority Dr. Ing. Grantz and Dipl. Ing. Ahne in collaboration with Friedrich R. Ostermeyer, Hamburg, for the facade design. In 1969, an extension was also built at the backyard. The building replaced the Reichsbank building at Feethörn 29, which was destroyed in World War II. Today, the Kiel registry office and the city treasury are located there.
The name of the building is reminiscent of the city president Wilhelm Spiegel (born June 22, 1876 in Gelsenkirchen; † March 12, 1933 in Kiel), an SPD politician, lawyer and notary. His assassination by the National Socialists marked the NSDAP's takeover of power in Kiel. Since 1995 there has been a bronze plaque at the entrance to the house at Fleethörn 26 to commemorate Spiegel: „The council meeting honors his memory and calls on all Kiel residents to persistently stand up against injustice and racism.".
