This category is for playing cards of the Saxon pattern which is a variant of the German-suited pack.

The original, austere, single-figure, card design emerged in the early 18th century and was followed, in the early 19th century by a more elaborate variant, finally being ousted in the 20th century by the double-headed type. It was mostly manufactured by cardmakers in Leipzig and Dresden whence the name. (source: PATTERN SHEET 52 by the International Playing Card Society, 13 Sep 2010).
