The Cairo Citadel was traditionally divided between a northern enclosure and the southern enclosure, whose walls and exact shape have changed over time. The northern enclosure, whose walls are generally older, contains the present-day Military Museum, Suleyman Pasha Mosque, and a large archeological garden. The southern enclosure includes the mosques of Muhammad Ali and al-Nasir Muhammad, the Jawhara (Gawhara Palace), and more.
