English: The nike sculpted by Paionios of Parian marble was excavated in two excavations, fragments of the torso in 1875, reported in 1876, and the head in 1879, reported in 1880 and 1881. The face was missing from the head. Subsequently an undamaged copy of the head was found in the Athenian agora. Many plaster casts have chosen to go with the Athenian head, but the original head is with the original torso in the Archaeological Museum of Olympia. The base shown under the statue in the museum is not the original, which remains on-site, off the southeast corner of the temple of Zeus.
