Formerly wrongly categorized as "Throne hall entrance" this monumental gate is at the entrance of a palace built by Ayyubid ruler al-Aziz in 1230. Much was destroyed by the Mongols. One can see a series of courtyards, the first with iwans on four sides, as well as a bath house from 1367 that has recently been restored. The actual throne hall is indicated as nr. 26 on a site plan (as Mamluk Throne Hall) and is in the building behind and above the inner gateway of the entrance.
