English: Lake Wombat is a glacial lake between the township of Franz Josef and Franz Josef Glacier, New Zealand. Lake Wombat is named after "Wombat Jack" Irwin, who prospected for gold on the Waiho River flats from the late 19th Century. It is a kettle lake set in a 9000-year-old moraine, and surrounded by rimu-kāmahi forest.
