These grotesques by John Wormald Appleyard function as drainpipe gargoyles, transferring rainwater from the roof. There are five on the east side, and five on the west side of the building; each on top of a buttress. As of 24 July 2020 they were soot-blackened and the carving was difficult to see - so the photographs have been edited to clarify the carving.
