These are carved stone gable finials along the east and west sides of the building. As of 24 July 2020 they were blackened with soot, so the photographs have been edited to show the carving which would otherwise be difficult to see. Finials were usually simple enough to be made by the stonemasons, but these have been created by the architectural sculptor.
